ZED (Zonal Employee Discount) Cheat sheet

Employee Engagement & Travel

December 10, 2015
General Information
• What is ZED?
– In short, ZED is a service charge agreement based on mileage flown. The zonal employee discount calculates
mileage to determine the fare for nonrevenue, space available, economy class leisure travel.

• How does it work?

– Travel under the ZED Agreement is based on the fare level and the mileage zone. There are nine zones and three
different fare levels: ZED Low (ZL), ZED Medium (ZM) and ZED High (ZH).
– All ZED passes must indicate a specific airline and routing when issued. Your pass will be issued under the fare level
(ZL/ZM/ZH) for which our agreement with that particular airline stipulates (example, American Airlines passes for
Employees will always be issued at the ZL fare level).

• How does it offer more flexibility?

– With an electronic ZED (eZED) issued through myIDTravel, you can book your alternate travel arrangements as late as
one hour prior to flight departure in most cases.
– You no longer have to submit your pass request days in advance and wait for a paper ticket to arrive to your work
location or FedEx address. There’s also no paper ticket to worry about misplacing—it’s all electronic!
– Additionally, refunds are also automated through the myIDTravel system; you may now request a refund for unused
travel on your own schedule, instead of having to wait until the refund to show on your 5th paycheck. (Please be aware
that depending on when the refund is processed, it may take one to two billing cycles to show on your credit card
statement, though generally refunds are posted to your account within a few business days.)

• How do I request passes?

– Simply submit your request through SWALife> My Life > Travel> fly > fly other > myIDTravel; you will be provided the
link for myIDTravel.

General Information – Continued…
• How to calculate ZED Fares:
– If you would like a price quote for a carrier that is in the myIDtravel system, you will need to log on through SWALife and
visit the Travel Tab in order to start your price quote. In some rare circumstances, you may be required to pay additional
taxes at the ticket counter in foreign countries due to daily tax fluctuations.

Step 1: Determine the fare level

– The fare level depends upon our agreement with the specific carrier, and if you’re an Employee, Retiree,
Committed/Registered Partner, qualified eligible Dependent or Parent.

Step 2: Determine the mileage zone

– The mileage zones are based on a range of miles traveled within each service charge level. To determine the mileage
of your route, visit www.webflyer.com > mileage calculator to calculate the mileage of each segment (not the
overall [nonstop] distance).

Zone Mileage ZL ZM ZH
1 1-450 $20 $29 $49
2 451-750 $24 $34 $54
3 751-1600 $34 $44 $64
4 1601-3200 $44 $64 $104
5 3201-4080 $54 $74 $114
