1.) TINIKLING (Philippines)

Tinikling- is the best known and most popular dance of the Philippines

-country’s national dance

PROCEDURE:

Do these steps outside the bamboo poles:

1. Hop on right foot


2. Hop another time on the right foot

Perform these steps between both poles:

3. Step on the left foot


4. Step on the right foot

Do these steps outside the poles:

5. Hop on the left foot outside the poles


6. Hop again on the left foot outside both poles

Return between the poles for these steps:

2.) TARANTELLA (ITALY)

Tarantella-one of the most popular folk dances in southern Italy and also the world

-used for therapeutic purposes

PROCEDURE:

1. 8 skipping steps backward


8 skipping steps advancing
Skipping step is a hop preceded by a step. Eight measures.
2. Stationary step
Step on right, cross left raised in front, hop on right, count 1 and 2.
Step on left, cross right raised in front hop on left, count 3 and 4.
Four hops on right leg, turning to right, left raised, count 1,2,3,4.

Repeat these stationary steps commencing with left foot. Eight measures.

3. Step on right, point left front.


Step on left, point right front.
Half turning to face partner. Two measures
4. Join right hands.Circle about each other to original places with 16 skipping steps to be executed in a
very romping manner. Separate and end side by side. Eight measuires.
5. 8 backward skipping steps. Four measures.
6. Repetition of no. 2 Step on right, cross and raise left, hop on right, count 1 and 2.Step on left, cross
raise right, hop on left, count 3 and 4.Four hops on right leg turning to the right count 1,2,3,4.
Repeat with left. Eight measures.
7. Advancing obliquely to right, hop on left foot, and at the same time point right toe to the left toe, count
1.Hop on left and at the same time point right heel with toe raised to the left toe, count 2.
Repeat this until 16 counts have been made. Right hand on hip, left hand raised over head. Eight
measures.
3.) BHANGRA (INDIA)

Bhangra- is the most popular folk dance from India

-it is a harvest dance

PROCEDURE:

1. Begin by doing warm-up exercises.


2. Practitioner should be aware of Dhol (Indian drums) beats because dhol and bhangra are like husband and wife who
love each other and wouldn’t divorce.
3. Stand with your feet fairly close together and your hands on your hips. Hop on your right foot and lift your left leg with
your knees angled to the left. Angle your body to the left as well.
4. Place your left foot on the ground and face toward the center of the room. Hop on your left foot as you lift your right
foot from the ground and angle your body to the right.work on lifting your knees higher and higher while still staying
with the beat of the music.
5. Continue to do the steps while turning slowly in a circle to the left. When you face front againb, lift your left foot and
your right foot before turning in a circle again.\
6. Add to the circle by raising your arms with your elbows bent and your hands up. Step forward with your right foot and
hop while lifting your left foot and turning your body to the left. Raise and lower your arms as you rotate your hands.do
the same with your right foot.
7. Work on exaggerating on turning your body to the left, center and right. Exaggerate movements of your hands to make
the rotations crisper.
8. Stand facing front with your hands on your hips and your feet fairly close together. Pick up your left foot and tap your
heel on the ground at an angle from your body. Return your left foot to the original position and tap your right heel on
the ground. Begin to move forward as you continue tapping each heel on the floor. Add arms movements to the steps.
As you step forward and tap your left heel on the ground, placed your back of your left hand against the small of your
back and raise your right hand over your head and wave it. As you step forward, tapping your right heel on the ground,
reverse the position of your hands.
9. Stand with your feet fairly close together and your hands on your hips. Step forward and to the side with your left foot.
Rock back on your right then again on your left. Turn in a circle to your left as you continue rocking back and forth on
your feet with your left foot before you. Move in a circle with your left foot leading and angled to the side. Raise your
hands before you and clap with each beat.
4.) SAMBA (Brazil)

PROCEDURE:

1. When the leader goes forward, the follower will go backwards. When the leader uses the left foot, the
follower uses the right foot. Bend the knees and keep them soft while you go through the steps.
2. Bring your other foot in for the ah-2 steps. Step your other foot right beside the one you moved in the
previous count. Shift your weight to your other foot, making sure not to put full pressure on this foot. Then,
on the 2 count, shift your weight completely back to the first foot. This should be done quickly.
* If you are the leader, you will be stepping your right foot forward beside your left, then shifting partial
body weight to the right foot during ah count.
*If you are the follower, you will be stepping your left foot back beside your right, then shifting partial
body weight to the left foot during the ah count.
*Let your hips sway as you bounce right and left while keeping your upper body still. This should be put
you back into your initial, neutral position.
3. Reverse the steps. The leader will be going backwards and the follower will be going forwards.
*if you are the leader, step backward on your right foot, bring your left foot back next to it. Shift your
weight quickly to the left on the ah count then back to the right on the 2 count.
*if you are the follower, step forward on your left foot, then bring your right foot forward next to it. Shift
part of your weight to the right foot on the ah and then back to the left on the 2 count.
4. Add in a side step.
* Start in the same closed position. If you are the leader, step right on the 1 count; if you are the
follower, step left. Bring the other foot in so it is beside the foot that led.
* If you are the leader, you will bring your left foot in and shift partial weight onto it on the ah step. If you
are the follower, you will bring in your right foot. Transfer you weight back onto your leading foot on the 2
count.
*step sideways the opposite way. If you are the leader, you will step left on the 1 count; if you are the
follower, you will step right.
5. Practice the steps.
5.) IRISH STEP DANCE (Ireland)

Irish step Dance- can be performed wearing either of the two kinds of shoes-hard and soft.

-performed during celebrations and carnivals and involves quick and intricate foot work.

PROCEDURE:

1. Stand centre stage.


2. Hop to knee, raising right foot up to the left knee.
3. Spring onto you right foot.

4-11. With right foot pointed out front, move from centre to right side of stage for seven steps. Lead with right
foot and follow with left foot.

10. After seventh step, lift right foot with knee bent.
11. Spring onto right foot bringing left foot into rear. Count one.
12. Step in place onto ball on left foot. Count two.
13. Step onto ball of right foot, behind left foot. Count three.
14. Lift left foot with knee bent and repeat short three.
15. Step onto ball of right foot, behind left foot. Count three.
16. Lift left foot with knee bent repeat short three.
17. Hop onto knee raising left foot up to right knee.
18. Spring onto left foot.

19-26.With left foot pointed out front,move from right side to centre stage for seven steps.Lead for left foot and
follow with right foot.

27.After seventh step,l;eft foot with knee bent.

28.spring onto left foot and bring right foot into rear.Count one

29.Step in place onto ball of left foot.Count two.


6.) FANDANGO (SPAIN)

PROCEDURE:

A1 1-4 the first couple turn each other with right hands once around in eight steps.

5-8 they cast off into the second place with eight steps, the second couple moving up into the first couples
place on the last four steps. On the cast the man turns out to the left while the woman turns out to the right.

A2 1-4 the first couple turn each other with left hands once around in eight steps.

5-8 they cast off to the bottom with the third couple moving up on the last four steps.

B1 1-8 all join hands and slip eight steps to the left and eight steps back to the right.

B2 1-4 the first couple lead up the center, with eight steps.

5-6 they castoff in four steps into the middle place while the third couple moves down.

7-8 the first man and first woman turn single, the man to the right and the woman to the left.

A3 1-4 the first man turns the third woman once around while the first woman turns the second man once
around (eight steps).

5-8 the first man turns his partner once around.


7.) POLKA (Europe)

PROCEDURE:

1. Hold your partner in a classic ballroom position. The man’s left hand and lady’s right hand
should be extended out nat an angle so that the hands are at the same height as the lady’s
shoulders. The man’s right hand should then go on the lady’s left shoulder blade and the lady’s
left hand should rest lightly on the man’s shoulder. You should feel a solid connection, neither
too delicate nor to heavy.
2. Step forward with your left foot. Meet your left foot with your right. Go forward with the left foot
again. Step forward with the right foot. Meet your right foot with your left. Step forward with
your right foot again.
8.) BALLET (Russia)

PROCEDURE:

1. Pile (plee-ay): to bend. Keeping both feet flat on the floor at all times,bend your knees.
Remember to send your knees directly out over your toes.
2. Releve (ruh-leh-vay’): to rise. This can be done on one foot or both feet together. Start with the
feet toghether, keep the knees straight and lift heels high enough so all of your body weight is on
the balls of the feet-NOT the tips of your toes. Repeat this on one foot.
3. Sauté (soh-tay):to jump. This sort of jump is performed “two feet to two feet”. This means that
you leave the ground by jumping off to both feet at the same time and you land on both feet at the
same time. Begin in a plié (as described above). Using your feet the same way you did to perform
releve, propel yourself into the air. Be sure to straighten and extend your legs in the air, but land
in plié to cushion your knees.
9.) BELLY DANCE (Egypt)

PROCEDURE:

1. Keep an erect posture-make sure your back is straight and your chest is out. Don’t slouch.
Gently pull your shoulders back to give yourself an at-attention look. Bend your knees
slightly and don’t lock them while you’re dancing.
2. Start to “shimmy”, first bend your knees slightly more than you would for your default
stance. Straighten one leg, using this motion to lift one side of your hips up towards your
body.
3. Keep your arms up. Create wave-like motions with your arms, shaking them to beat or even
making flirtatious “come hither” gestures.
4. Accent with your leg and hand movements,
5. Keep a flirtatious air.
10.) CAN-CAN DANCE

PROCEDURE:

1. Place your arms around the shoulders of the dancers on either side of you. Make sure

your facing the same direction.

2. Kick your legs to the beat of the music. “free-style”.

3. Turn and thrust you derriere out towards the audience while letting a whoop.
