Forklifts
 Forklifts can lift and move heavy objects
on pallets or in boxes, and they typically
have two long metal prongs on the front of
the vehicle that can slip under boxes and
pallets. The operator can then shift the
prongs up and down to move the boxes to
the desired location. There are many
different types of forklifts; they can be gas-
or battery-powered, and they come in sit-
down and stand-up designs. Forklifts are
common in warehouses and factories.
Cranes
 Cranes lift and move heavy objects.
Cranes typically consist of a long metal
framework and a wire or chain that hangs
from the top of the crane and is attached
to the objects that will be moved. Cranes
are common in building construction and
for moving objects on and off ships.
Backhoes
 A backhoe has a large bucket at the end
of a two-part arm. It can dig up and move
earth or other materials. Backhoes are
commonly used in road
construction, landscaping and other
projects where large amounts of earth
most be cleared or moved from one place
to another. They can be used for
applications such as creating dikes and
trenches, smoothing terrain and
removing trees and stumps.
Bulldozers
 Bulldozers have a sturdy tank-like
construction with treads instead of wheels
and a large metal pusher or plow on the
front of the vehicle. Bulldozers can be used
for demolition and moving or smoothing
materials such as piles of dirt or gravel.
Their treads allow them to move over
rough terrain. Bulldozers are ideal for
cleaning up or clearing terrain littered with
things like old broken down equipment or
vehicles, trash, shrubs and hedges.
Compactors
 Compactors are designed to increase
the compactness of soil or other materials
or reduce the size of waste materials by
subjecting them to high pressure.
Compactors often are vehicles with large
drum-like attachments that roll along the
ground to compact materials as the vehicle
passes over them. For instance, in road
construction, compactors are used to make
gravel and soil denser before adding
concrete or asphalt.
A tape measure or measuring tape is a
flexible form of ruler. It consists of a ribbon
of cloth, plastic, fiber glass, or metal strip
with linear-measurement markings. It is a
common measuring tool.
A hacksaw is a fine-tooth saw with
a blade under tension in a frame, used
for cutting materials such as metal or bone.
Hand-held hacksaws consist of a metal
arch with a handle, usually a pistol grip,
with pins for attaching a narrow disposable
blade.
A shovel is a tool for lifting and moving
loose material such
as coal, gravel, snow, soil, or sand and is
an extremely common tool which is used
extensively
in agriculture, construction and gardening.
It is usually a hand tool consisting of a
broad blade with edges or sides that is
fixed to a medium-length handle.
A bricklayer's trowel (also known as
a pointing trowel) is a tool with a handle
and flat metal blade, used by masons for
leveling, spreading, or shaping substances
such as cement, plaster, or mortar, as well
as for breaking bricks to shape them or
smoothing a mold.
In woodworking and carpentry, hand
saws, also known as "panel saws", are
used to cut pieces of wood into different
shapes. This is usually done in order
to join the pieces together and create a
wooden object.
A crowbar, a wrecking bar, pry bar,
or prybar, or sometimes (in British usage)
a prise bar or prisebar more informally

a tool consisting of a metal bar with a
single curved end and flattened points,
often with a small fissure on one or both
ends for removing nails.
A sledgehammer is a tool consisting of a
large, flat head attached to a lever (or
handle). The head is typically made
of metal. The sledgehammer can apply
moreimpulse than other hammers, due to
its large size.
A concrete saw (often known as
a consaw or road saw) is a power
tool used for
cutting concrete,masonry, brick, asphalt, til
e, and other solid materials. Concrete saws
are powered by gasoline, hydraulic or
pneumatic pressure, or electric motors.
A jackhammer is a power tool that
combines a hammer and chisel. Hand-held
jackhammers are typically powered
by compressed air, but some used electric
motors. Larger jackhammers used
on construction machinery are
usually hydraulically powered.
Torpedo Level A level is used to make
sure your work is level and plumb. A great
installation starts with straight switch and
outlet covers.
Scaffolding is a temporary structure used
to support people and material in
the construction orrepair of buildings and
other large structures. It is usually a
modular system of metal pipes or tubes,
although it can be made out of other
materials.
A drill (from Dutch: drillen) or drill
motor is a tool fitted with a
rotating cutting tool, usually a drill bit, used
for drilling holes in various materials. The
cutting tool is gripped by a chuck at one
end of the drill and rotated while pressed
against the target material.
A concrete mixer (also commonly called
a cement mixer) is a device that
homogeneously
combinescement, aggregate such as sand
or gravel, and water to form concrete. A
typical concrete mixer uses a revolving
drum to mix the components.
A loader is a heavy equipment machine
(often used in construction) that is
primarily used to "load" material (asphalt,
demolition debris, dirt, feed, gravel, logs,
raw minerals, recycled material, rock, sand,
wood chips, etc.) into or onto another type
of machinery (dump truck, conveyor belt,
feed-hopper, rail-car, etc.).
A dump truck (or, UK, dumper truck) is
a truck used for transporting loose material
(such as sand, gravel, or dirt)
for construction. A typical dump truck is
equipped with a hydraulically operated
open-box bed hinged at the rear, the front
of which can be lifted up to allow the
contents to be deposited on the ground
behind the truck at the site of delivery.
Excavators are heavy
equipment consisting of
a boom, bucket and cab on a rotating
platform (known as the "house"). The
house sits atop an undercarriage
with tracks or wheels. All movement and
functions of the excavator are
accomplished through the use of hydraulic
fluid, be it with rams or motors.
