INSTRUCTION MANUAL FOR SALINITY INDICATOR

DAE SUNG ELECTRIC CO., LTD

1. General Description
The salinity indicator YO-100D is capable of making measurement of
the density of salinity, impurity, chemicals in the distilled water or fresh water.
Salinity detecting method is conductivity check of water.
This equipment is so designed that it causes the alarm lamp to light
when the density of salinity, impurity, chemicals is over the setting point (10 PPM).
Also in the same time salinity high alarm signal can be issued to the monitoring
system.
When the density of salinity, impurity, chemicals returns to less than setting
point (10 PPM), alarm is automatically released.
DC 24V without power 4mA - 20mA output signal (0 - 20 ppm) is supplied to alarm
monitoring system (ECR Console).
2. Specification
1) Measuring range 0 - 20 PPM

2) Water temp. compensating range 5 C - 150 C

3) Sensor operating pressure Max. 19.6 bar

4) Setting range of alarm 0.1 - 20 PPM (10 PPM

Factory setted)
5) Relay contact rating for Salinity high alarm signal 5A 250V AC, C-NO-NC
(Without Voltage)
6) Relay contact rating for External voltage signal 5A 250V AC, C-NO-NC
(With Source Voltage)
7) Output signal DC 4mA-20mA (0-20 PPM)
DC 24V Loop power.
Load: Resistive 350: max.
8) Power source 220v 60Hz 1Ph

9) Power consumption Max. 15vA

4) Alarm Point By pushing the button, alarm set point is displayed.

5) Power Switch The power supply switch for the equipment.

6) PPM Display Display for ppm indicating.
7) Alarm Setting Variable For setting alarm point.

8) Power Source Fuse Fuses for power source. (1A Slow Blow)
9) Alarm Relay Relay for salinity high alarm.
( Omron G2R-2-S, 12V DC )
10) External Voltage Signal Relay Relay with source voltage. When salinity high
alarm occurred, this relay is engaged.
( Omron G2R-2-S, 12V DC )
11) Self Test Switch Switching toggle switch to `test' position, enables
operator to ascertain 10 PPM of alarm setting
value. ( Set the self test switch to `Normal'
during normal operation )
12) Adjusting Knob for Self Test The self test switch position to `Test', turn
adjusting knob to the clockwise, the indicating
digit will increase.
At 10 PPM, alarm lamp and external volt signal
relay are operated.
13) Temp. Compensating Knob For use in compensating the variation of electirc
conductivity due to temperature of the distilled
water being measured. ( 5 C - 150 C)
* Normally set the `water temp. compensation knob' to actual water temperature.
14) Terminal Block Terminal for wire connection.

5. Method For Mounting And Wiring

1) Mounting
Respecting the mounting place of measuring instruments, correctly mount
them at optimum place paying attentions to the followings.
2
a. In mounting the instrument select place which is not under the influence
of outside induction.(Avoid neighbourhood of solenoid valve and motor, etc.)
b. Avoid mounting at place which is remarkably influenced by vibration.
c. In mounting the instruments, select place whose ambient temperature
around the instruments is as approximate to the normal temperature
as possible.
d. In mounting the instrument, select place which is free of waterdrop
beside being at normal temperature.

2) Wiring
In making wiring for the equipment, ensure the correct wiring by setting
terminal symbols as shown in the circuit diagram, as for the end of the
electric wire, correctly fasten it to the terminal stand using force fitting
terminal.

a. This equipment can be operated by AC 200V - 230V.

Therefore, upon ascertaining the prescribed power source voltage to be
supplied.

6. Method For Adjustment

1) Method for testing the performance

With the power source switched on, the power source indicating lamp glows
when the measuring instruments is under operation.
After ascertaining that the power from the power source is being supplied,
set the selftest switch to `test' position with self test knob turning to clockwise
or counter clockwise and thereby ascertain that the alarm lamp glows and
the indicator shows 1-20 PPM.
Set the selftest switch to `Normal' position.
2) Method for setting the alarm
Setting of alarm is accomplished by alarm setting variable resistor 7.
Push the `Alarm point' push button in front of panel and Adjust `Alarm setting
variable resistor' (0.1-20 ppm).

3) Setting the temperature compensating variable resistor

Compensation of conductivity variation with temperature of the distilled water
being measured can be done by turning the `water temp. compensation knob'.
Normally set the `water temp. compensation knob' to actual water temperature.
3
7. Maintenance And Check

1) Cleaning of electrode
In order to maintain exact performance of the equipment, remove the sensor
at least once 6 months and clean it.

a. Remove the sensor from valve.

b. By use of soft cloths (waste cloth or the like), wipe the dust or scale
deposited on the surface of the electrode of the sensor.

2) How to take out sensor

a. Take out cable connecter 1.

b. Loose and pull out nut 2.

c. Take out sensor 3 .

Selecting installation position of Main Unit
(Display Unit) & Salinity Sensor
1. Main Unit (Display Unit)
1) Please avoid severely vibrating position(Paricularly, to avoid Tank, or near Tank
Wall, which transmitting easily water hammering vibration)
2) Steel Seat should be installed with strong one sustainable to the vibration.
3) Please selsect the position as possible as lower surrounding temperature.
4) To avoid the position any possible water splashing or dropping.

2. Salinity Sensor

3) The phenomen of PPM Reading of Main unit gradually increasing is the case when
the sensor has been installed in collected water, which is corresponding to the case
water flow stoppage inside the pipe when the system shutdown.
When water flow stopped, conductivity increase due to either `rusting occurrence' or
`Ion Increase'. When conductivity increase, PPM increase.
(For your reference, The principle of the `Salinity Indicator Sensing Method' is the
one of Conductivity check of the water).
Accordingly, when there is no water flow due to system stoppage, the sensor should
be installed at the location either not to touch with collected water or removing the
collected water as below figure;

4) Do not installate a sensor on bottom side
Under the circumstances of system stoppage, or no
water flow inside the pipinig system, or nearly no water
existence in the system, there might be yet occurred

abnormal alarm (high ppm) due to ion increase, which
caused by collected water inside socket valve itself
(X) (water collection phenomenon from gravity).

5) It is not adequate to install the sensor at the mixed location

of steam and water. (detecting sensing hunting phenomenon)
