ABSTRACT

Abdul Wahid 2017.The factors that correlate with elderly participants for joining gymnastic
in the work area of UPT Puskesmas Gunung Intan in Babulu, Penajam Paser Utara, under
guidance Ruminem as the first mentor, Endro Buwono as the second mentor.

Low participation of elderly people for joining gymnastic in Posyandu in 2016 as many as
64 people (8,21%).

The purpose of this research is knowing the factors that correlate with elderly people for
joining gymnastic in the work area of UPT Puskesmas Gunung Intan in Babulu, Penajam
Paser Utara. The factors are based on knowledge, attitude and family’s supports.

This research is quantitative by using cross sectional approach. The population as much as
780 elderly is above 60 years old. Sum of the sample is about 89 people. The times for the
research since April 18th up to May 08th 2017. The sample is taken by proportio stratified
random sampling for elderly who follow the gymnastic and who don’t.

The result of the research shows the elderly people in Puskesmas Gunung Intan gets enough
knowledge by value p value = 0,000< α = 0,1, attitude p value = 0,004< α = 0,1, and family’s
supports p value = 0,046< α = 0,1. All of factors that have been researched is correlate with
the elderly participation in joining gymnastic.

The suggestion to puskesmas staff in increasing the cadre training, involves the community
leaders, religious leaders, gives the reward to elderly who follow gymnastic, then put the role
of family in it.
