Having a family is significant towards each individuals as they give affection,

support and they also provide positive values to their members. It is also one of
the most important infulence when it comes to a child's life. From the infant
stage, children seek for their primary attachment figure for proctection, needs and
security (Voices for Working Families, 2018). However, when we talk about families
it is something that orphan children are missing or longing for. There are a lot of
cases where familieis are born into poverty therefore they have not choice but to
place their children into an institutional care (We are Lumos). Other cases
indicated that reasons why children are put in orphanages are becuase they've been
through traumatic experiences, such as being psychologically and emotionally
traumatized that they obtain from their previous families. Therefore as part of the
institution, houseparents play a crucial role among orphan children because they
are involved with the orphans almost twenty-four hours a day. Houseparents provide
programs and services that shows what family care is to the children. They are
resposible for the basic needs provision, giving well balanced and organized
activities that gives off a feeling of family life like structure for children in
the orphanages to expereince (Lamberte, 2017). However there has been problems
regarding how there are high ratings of staff turnovers in institutional care.
Staffs from orphanages complain about the lack of privacy abd spending long hours
doing their work therefore causing job dissatisfaction. These unsatisfactory living
conditions that they expereince were also linked on how they struggle to deal with
uneasy relationships with difficult children which leads to houseparents having a
heard time achieving good relationships with them. Having problems of constant
staff turnovers also affects how the child would form attachment, bond and trust to
the people who they see in their environment (Cometa, 2008). This also cause staffs
to have [otential apathy and frustration as they continue their work (Whitehead,
1984). With that, the researchers were curious enough to understand what really is
the emotional and behavioural attachment of houseparents as well as their roles
towards orphan children.
