Sustainability: A stimuli of Islamic Architecture? Current Environmental Crisis Abstract It's no secret that economic growth and energy had come at the cost of environmental degradation. Global warming, nature destruction, until the limits of green space force us as the present generation to look ahead a sustainable program. Sustainability takes into account how we might live in harmony with the natural world around us, protecting it from damage and destruction, Islam has a rich tradition of highlighting the importance of environmental protection and conservation of natural resources. According to Islamic law, the basic elements of nature — land, water, fire, forest, and light — belong to all living things, not just human beings. A man should take all necessary steps to ensure that the entrusted property is passed on to the next generation in as pure form as possible. Islamic architecture can be understood as the architecture people created as an application of Islamic principles and teachings, and an application of how religion can shape buildings. Islam is based on the Quran and the Hadith, and so is the Islamic architecture. There are many direct and indirect references to different forms of buildings in the Quran. As Islamic architecture should follow the teachings of Islam in all ways and in the context of sustainability too, therefore, in this study we would look over on how and in what ways the materials, construction techniques, and elements used in Islamic arts and architecture respond to the issue of sustainability and how far the style of Islamic architecture is in accordance with the Sustainable architecture.
