Verbs Explanation Exceptions

There are some

exceptions. The
following verbs belong to
Group 1, though they
end with "~ iru" or "~
<GROUP 1: strong eru".
verbs> The basic form of Group 1 verbs end with "~ u".
 はいる-to enter
～う ending verbs  はなす (to speak) → はなします
 かく (to write) → かきます  はしる- to run
 きく (to listen) → ききます  いる - to need
Change to い sound  まつ (to wait) → まちます  かえる- to return
+ ます  のむ (to drink) → のみます  かぎる- to limit
 きる- to cut
 しゃべる - to
chatter
 しる- to know

The basic form of Group 2 verbs end with either

"~iru" or "~ eru".

~ Iru ending verbs

 きる (to wear) → きます

 みる (to see) → みます
<GROUP 2: weak
verbs>  おきる (to get up) → おきます
 おりる (to get off) → おります
～いる ・～える
 しんじる (to believe) → しんじます
ending verbs

 あける (to open) → あけます

Drop る + ます
 あげる (to give) → あげます
 でる (to go out) → でます
 ねる (to sleep) → ねます
 たべる(to eat) → たべます

<GROUP 3> There are only two irregular verbs, くる and する

Irregular Verbs  する (to do) → します

  くる (to come) → きます
きます・します

て form
★ て-form (te-form) by itself does not have a tense (past, present, etc.)

Group 1 Verbs

<From the ます-form, drop the ます and add the second column>

ます－Base Example

つかいます (to use) → 使って

い • ち • り (ます) →って かちます (to win) → かって

やります (to do) → やって

しにます (to die) → しんで

に • び • み (ます)→ んで あそびます (to play) → あそんで

のみます (to drink) → 飲んで

き (ます)→ いて かきます (to write) → 書いて

ぎ (ます) → いで いそぎます (to hurry) → いそいで

し (ます) → して かします (to lend) → かして

Exception
行きます→ 行って いきます (to go) → 行って

Group 2 Verbs

<From the ます-form, drop the ます and add て>

Drop ます＋て みます (to look) → 見て

 たべます(to eat) → 食べて

Group 3/ Irregular Verbs

The following two ALWAYS remains the same. It is ALWAYS and exception.

きます → きて くる (to come) → 来て

します → して する (to do) → して
