you are here you will have the
opportunity to experience an

professional theatre as we can

support you in becoming a well-
trained, creative thinking performer.
We expect a lot from you and trust
that you will quickly develop a
professional attitude whatever your
age or experience. The theatre
demands collaboration, you can rely

maintain and develop the

achieving your goals and

The staff at The Miskin Theatre have had varied and extensive experiences of working
in the professional performing arts industry. They have worked as performers,
choreographers, artistic directors, dance artists, managers, musical directors,
producers and consultants for theatres, dance organisations, professional dance and
musical theatre schools and production companies. With our wealth of experience,
knowledge and passion we are here to help guide you along your journey to fulfil your
potential and to assist you in becoming the best performer possible.

PROFESSIONAL DISCIPLINE is a vital part of every performer’s daily life. It is The Miskin Theatre's job to ensure that
your training is underpinned by a clear understanding of the needs of the industry for which you are preparing yourself
to work in. Major emphasis will be placed on the importance of self discipline, appearance, punctuality, courtesy and
respect for colleagues, peers and staff, unselfishness and a great deal of common sense.

BE ON TIME!
There are no excuses for
lateness to rehearsals and
performances. It’s your job
to get yourself in and ready
by the call time set by your
choreographers and
directors. Avoid the
awkwardness and
disappointment of not being
allowed on the rehearsal
floor or in the studio by
planning ahead and allowing
yourself extra time to travel.
When working professionally
lateness is unacceptable and
will affect your future re-
employment. By calling in to
inform your choreographers
of your lateness does not
excuse you from college
disciplinary procedures,
unless this is agreed in
advance.
SIGNING IN
When you get to the theatre,
make sure that you sign in.
‘I forgot’ is not a valid
excuse and will probably be
followed by: ‘…and I ‘forgot’
to cast you in the piece that
was created’ from the
choreographers and
directors you should have
been working with. Signing
in tells us who is here and
who is not. If you are in and
haven’t signed in, then
legally you aren’t here. This

 ENGLISH & MATHS
English & Maths are a fundamental and
compulsory part of your vocational training
here at The Miskin Theatre. You must sign in
before attending the relevant session as an
extended part of your professional practise.
As part of the Learner Charter you have
agreed that you will attend all designated
sessions. Failure to attend these sessions
will result in disciplinary actions being taken,
and jeopardise your place on the course.
PHONES & SOCIAL MEDIA
Unless otherwise instructed there is a strict
no phone policy inside of the studios or any
other allocated workspace. Phones must be
safely stored on silent mode in your
allocated locker. No recordings or
photographic evidence of any work should
ever be made or shared on social media
without prior consent. Failure to comply with
these conditions will result in disciplinary
action.
FRONT OF HOUSE
You are part of a larger company at The Miskin
Theatre and have a responsibility to the other
companies as they do to yours. Doing FOH for
other companies enables us to keep working
and producing.
You will need to dress smart and behave
responsibly on FOH – you are representing the
theatre to the public and it is a major
responsibility to uphold The Miskins’
reputation. Remember that lateness or
absence seriously compromises the safety of
the public and could compromise the theatre
of its license. If there aren’t enough FOH staff,
it means that the theatre won’t legally be able
to open, which means a cancelled show,
making a very unhappy audience and an
unhappy cast.
LICENSING
Enjoy your theatre and all the facilities at The
Miskin. However, it’s important to note that the
public bars at The Miskin Theatre are subject
to national licensing laws. If you’re over 18
have ID ready. Don’t be offended if you look
younger than your years. It won’t always be
the case - ask your choreographers and
directors!
 HOUSE KEEPING
LABEL YOUR EQUIPMENT
Please label your equipment clearly. If you
are planning to leave your belongings at
college you do so at your own risk, as we
cannot accept responsibility for equipment
lost or stolen. Your lockers are there for the
safety of your belongings so ensure that you
use them effectively.
APPOINTMENTS
Appointments should be always be
discussed with the head of department
prior to booking and made as early in the
day as possible. An appointment card
should be given to the head of
department on return.
UNIFORM
As a professional in training it is essential
that you are always prepared for your
sessions and rehearsals in the
appropriate attire. Check your equipment
list to ensure you meet the specific
requirements for each class or discipline.
Always be prepared for a change of
circumstance due to a change of
timetable, a guest choreographer or a last
minute casting.
HOLIDAYS
Holidays cannot be taken during
company or college time. Holidays taken
in college time without prior consent will
have a serious impact on your training
and casting. We work like a repertory
theatre and are always in production for
both in-house and external performances
or working towards assessment, which
means we don’t work to school term
dates, including half terms. You will still
be allocated holidays but these will be
arranged around the rehearsal and
performance schedule.
PIERCINGS & TATTOOS
Piercings and false/long nails must be
removed before all sessions, rehearsals
and performances for Health & Safety and
appearance purposes. You will be
personally responsible for covering all
visible tattoos during all costume
rehearsals and performances. Think
wisely before tattooing your body as this
will become the tool you depend on
throughout your career and it could have
a serious impact on your success.
