LESSON AIMS:

-to provide oral practice and to encourage conversation based on an assigned topic;

-to encourage the students to look for information and bring their own arguments to support
their answers;

-to stimulate conversation, to create interest in the topic and to initiate discussion;

-to give the students a chance to practice their reading and speaking skills;

-to enrich vocabulary.

OPERATIONAL AIMS

- to practise answering global multiple-choice questions on different text types;

- to give practice in reading techniques;

- to give practice in making suggestions and agreeing and disagreeing in spoken English;

- to practise inferring the meaning of unknown words

TYPES OF INTERACTION: T – Ss; S – S (pair work);

MATERIALS

ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS:

- Some students may not understand the text while listening and they may need the tape script
in order to do the task;
- Some students may be reluctant to speak and express their own points of view.

disadvantages of living in either a nuclear or an extended
family

4. Reading Ss skim the three texts and get a general idea of each one. 10’
At a first reading they will try to answer a gist question Ss →T
such as: Which text talks about the problems of living in an
extended family?

Ss are divided into three groups. Each groups receives a T→Ss

Ss read the questions carefully and find the important Ss ↔Ss


words (words that help them in finding the correct answer
in the multiple choice exercise). Then Ss read the assigned 10’
text and decide on the correct answers.

7. Homework and The teacher appreciates the students' performance and asks 5’
assessment them to write as homework the following: T→Ss
Comment on: First we are children to our parents, then
parents to our children, then parents to our parents, then
children to our children. Write an opinion essay in about
200 words.
