I. Aim and Objective

With depleting natural resources globally, the
dilemma of efficient power management is in the
mainstream nowadays. Therefore, it is extremely
important that valuable energy resources are not
wasted. For instance: leaving lights on in an empty
room plays a very small part in the wastage of
energy but several of such wastage situations result
in a worldwide shortage of energy resources.
Our prime objective is to design a micro-
controlled power management system model that
will provide a way to deal with the energy crisis. It Figure 1 Circuit Diagram
will automatically control the switching of lights and
other appliances depending on the number of people
inside the room.

of the microcontroller and other components.

III. IR Proximity Sensor

This IR Proximity Sensor is a multipurpose
infrared sensor which can be used for obstacle
sensing, colour detection, fire detection, line
sensing, etc. and also as an encoder sensor. The Sensor comes with ambient light protection

IR sensors are highly susceptible to ambient light I2C Interface (I2C Address: 0x39)
and the IR sensor on this sensor is suitably
covered to reduce effect of ambient light on the
sensor. The sensor has a maximum range of
around 40-50 cm indoors and around 15-20 cm
outdoors.
