Schooling can be equally one of the greatest and most stressful times of your life.
Whether you are new to the scene or have been doing your best in the institution for a
couple of years. You know that this time of the school year, everyone was stressed out
over projects, exams, quizzes, performance tasks and recitations. They said every
student have their own sentiments to the teacher, school and even to the government or
the system they are following where it is being demonstrated in a four minute short film
entitled KPL or “Kung Pwede Lang” and if translated is "If only I can", a short film
produced by Vincetiments that gone viral over the internet. This short film was directed
by Darryl Yap. He used the typical classroom setting to depicts and deliver what he
wanted to convey to the audience. There was this point in the film that the scene cuts to
the present time, and the truth is revealed: that all those harsh statements and emotions
are bottled up inside and the student is faced with the reality that she could not say
those things to the teacher in front of fellow students and the teacher. The lead female
actress apologizes quietly, and she is further mocked by the teacher for not completing
the requirement on time.

The video clearly shows the misunderstanding between the students and
teachers, which testify that there is a conflict between student-teacher relationship. This
paper aims to prove that the teachers must ensure and do their job in order to meet
student’s needs both academically and emotionally, it includes their attitude and
treatment toward their students regarding its performance. On the other hand, other
concerned claimed that some students are taking advantages about the good treatment
that they are receiving from their teachers, in that way teachers are forced to used their
power and a authority to disciplined, to rule their students and to imply and use the
term “iron fist” to them. According to Valenzuela (1999), teachers have role to initiate
first in building good relationship with students and take a sincere interest to the
students for them to have a good connection. There are different teaching methods a
teacher can use but the best way and most effective.

According to Whitaker (2005), the main variable in the classroom is not the
student but the teacher. After establishing relationship with the students the teachers
can look at other aspects like setting their expectation on the students, behavior
management, which is the most difficult part for most of the teachers. They are having
high expectations toward their students where in reality they have higher expectation for
themselves. This is supported by Stipek (2005) that students who are not performing
well on class are the one who have poor relationship with their teachers but the one
who are excelling have a good relationship towards them. Positive teacher expectations
were associated with high academic performance or academic gains, whereas negative
teacher expectations resulted in decrease in academic performance. In reality, this kind
of system really exists and discrimination is felt not because a student does not have
good grade on one subject, does not necessarily mean he is not good on other subject.
Students have their own forte and mastery level in any subject they are taking. In this,
relationship must not be based on academic excellence.

Teacher should provide and meet the needs of their students because creating
classroom environments that promote positive cultures with healthy interactions can
motivate students to learn more (Whitaker, 2005). Researcher who have investigated
STR for older students have found that positive STR are associated with positive
academic and social outcomes for high school students (Cataldi & Kewall, 2009). There
is nothing more inspirational with a devoted teacher and a willing student. In a secure and safe
class environment students engage more to participate in the class.

Teachers must be aware and must not abuse their power in treating their
students. According to Teachers Appreciation Blog, there are 2 impacts of being strict of
teachers, the positive and negative impact. The positive impacts are motivated class, maximized
teacher respect and well organized class but in reality, students just seem to be organized,
motivated and have respect physically by obeying any demand because they have fear that if
they will not obey their terror teachers they will be given a low grade. While the negative
impacts are less approachable, discouraging attitude and student’s rebellion as what the KPL

short film depicted (Fitria, 2012). It is necessary to gain respect from students and they cannot
take the role of facilitator into dictator because students can like you without abusing your
power. The students will lead to have negative thoughts and remarks about their teachers who
are terror and will start to hate them.

According to Singla (2017), not all students has the same family background, skills and
capabilities, thought process and are able to produce expected results all the time, so
the teacher should assess every situation that may happen. There are teachers who are
overloading students with lots of projects and assignments to be done in just a few days
without considering time needed for it be done perfectly and there are also other factors
students also have to do. This supports by Sailors that some students have extracurricular
activities in which they need to go to practice or attend competition right after school,
some might have family obligations while other may have personal problem in life such
as unstable home environments like the over 1.3 million children who are considered as
homeless. Moreover, they must understand the students because every one of us has
different story in life, inside and outside the classroom. Students have their other role except
from being a student such as being a daughter or son for their parents and brother or sister for
their siblings. They also have obligations at home.

In conclusion, teachers play an important role in moulding our thoughts and

keep them in the correct direction. Quote unquote “Knowledge is divine”, teachers are
the noble people who impart knowledge to us. A teacher plays variety of roles today.
Teachers are the real building block of any nation. They can carve the future in the way
they want. It's them on whose hand country future lies. From scientist to terrorist to
politician to engineers everyone have a teacher and they have a great impact on them.
In this case Teacher must consider the student’s academic and emotional capacity for
them to have a better establish relationship as a second parent. As a teacher it is their
responsibility to share their knowledge to their students since it is their profession
however, being a teacher is much more than just executing lesson plans in this

contemporary world. Today teaching is a variety profession; teachers often carry roles of
a second parent, disciplinarian, mentor, counsellor, role model and many other related.
