to the Middle Ages. The M i d d l e Ages made a d i s c o r d between

The personification o f the f l e s h i s Don Juan. Therefore, t h e sensua-

l i t y o f w h i c h Don Juan i s an incarnation i s a k i n d o f counterkingdom

of t h e flesh, i n opposition to t h e kingdom o f t h e s p i r i t . He re-

presents a mode o f l i v i n g opposed to t h e ethical and religious

p r i n c i p l e s o f r i q h t order. He i s t h e f i r s t phase of aesthetic l i f e

- raw sensuality.
