INTRODUCTION
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous solution
comprised of a high concentration of platelets and WBC’s
suspended in plasma. Platelets, or Thrombocytes, are a natural
source of growth factors. When activated, these platelets
release a large variety of known growth factors that accelerate
the body’s natural healing process.
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) application is a successful catalyst
in the healing process for wide varieties of conditions. PRP
was first developed in the 1970s and first used in an open
heart surgery procedure. PRP therapy began gaining
popularity in the mid 1990s. Methods of harvesting and using
platelet rich plasma are becoming widely practiced in the
fields of sports medicine, orthopedics, traumatology, general
surgery, dentistry, dermatology and cosmetology and
ophthalmology.
Their main function is hemostasis by attaching to any breach
in vessel where platelets aggregate, activate and release
granules. The platelets organelle zone is rich in platelet
granules. Alpha granules contain clotting mediators such as
factor V, factor VIII, fibrinogen, fibronectin, platelet-derived
growth factors, and chemotactic agents. Delta granules, or
dense bodies, contain ADP, calcium, serotonin, which are
platelet-activating mediators. Activated platelets release
granules by exocytosis which contain not only clotting factors
but more than sixty different biologically active substances
that are involved in processes of tissue regeneration,
angiogenesis, epithelialization, proliferation and
differentiation of osteoblasts, and in synthesis of collagen and
extracellular matrix of connective tissue.

Dry eye is a chronic condition that decreases function and
affect visual function with severe discapacity until now
treatments are based in artificial eye drops. Platelet rich
plasma has emerged as a strategy for cellular restoration, the

severe dry eye.
WHAT ARE AUTOLOGOUS PRP EYE DROPS
The patients who have been unable to obtain relief through
other methods may have success with this treatment. The
treatment is very safe and effective for the treatment of
chronic and symptomatic Dry Eye Syndrome. Other
indications for the use of Autologous PRP Eye Drops may
include Ulcers and Ocular Surface Syndrome Post LASIK.
Autologus E-PRP eye drops are prepared from patient’s own
blood and takes 2-3 hours to prepare activated E-PRP. Finally
it is combined in the antibiotic or lubricant drops and should
be stored in refrigerator and used within 7 days.
