Topic: Tint and shades


Learning Objectives

This lesson Gives thought of learning About the Art work and calligraphy.
Students will mix paint with white to make tints and black to make shades in a gradual
succession!

RESOURCES + MATERIALS
 Paper
 Paint
 Paintbrushes, palettes, water

Lesson
Introduction (5 minutes)
 Tell students to turn the paper sideways to create the background first. Fold paper in half and
open so you have a vertical line (you are looking at the picture sideways).
 Students will begin with one brush stroke of the solid color (pink in the example above) on the
fold line—then stop.
 Explain that mixing white with a color makes it lighter. This is called a tint. Mix a bit of white in
your pink and do another stroke on the left side of your first stroke.
 Next, add a bit more white, and continue tinting each stroke a little more.

Guided Practice/Interactive Modeling (10 minutes)

 Divide the students into groups of 2-3. Ask them to think of tint and shades of colors match these
colors and draw a painting according to their skills and thinking.
 Have the groups present their short skits to the class.
 After that collect the work they have done and best painting show in the class for brain storming.
Assessment (5 minutes)
