1 MATERIAL PROPERTIES
1.1 Steel
For the elastic properties of steel, the following values should be used
Modulus of elasticity: E=205000 N/mm2
Shear Modulus: G=E/ [2(1+v)]
Poisson’s ratio: v=0.30
Coefficient of thermal expansion: α=12x10-6 per o C
1.1.1 Grade S275
py = 275 MPa thk ≤ 16 mm Design Strength
All steel material Grade is considered to be S275 unless it is specified in the calculation.
1.2 Glass
Design as per AAMA & ASTM E 1300 (Window Glass Design)
Modulus of elasticity = 71700 mPa
Density = 2550 kg/m3
1.3 Aluminium
Modulus of elasticity = 67000 Mpa
Density = 2700 kg/m3
Allowable stress = 160/1.2 = 133.3 Mpa
2.1
2.1 LOAD COMBINATIONS
1) DL+WL (Glass Check)
2) 0.9 DL+1.6WL (Bracket check)
3) 1.2 DL+1.6WL (Bracket check)
4) 1.2 DL+1.2 WL (Aluminium check)
3 GLASS
Glass has been designed according to ASTM E 1300 & AS 1288 Standard Practice for Determining
Load Resistance of Glass in Buildings. Input and results from analysis file are presented below.

Deflection check:
Actual deflection of glass = 12.069 mm
Actual deflection 12.069 mm is less than allowable deflection 30 mm. Hence SAFE.
Refer Appendix-A.
Stress Check:
Actual stress of glass = 21.2 MPa
Allowable stress as per ASTM =73 MPa > 21.2 MPa. Hence OK
Result:
Hence 10+1.52+10 mm thick tempered Glass is structurally adequate.
3.2 Top Bracket Design
The Glass has been supported at bottom by means of Aluminium channel fully embedded in
concrete and top has been supported using 3 top brackets. This section deals with the top bracket
design and the U channel design will demonstrate in Case-2 glass check.

3.3 Balcony glass Partition (CASE-2)
The Balcony glass partition of size 2.192 x2 m has been design as a cantilever glass with 120x40x2
mm thick aluminium U channel fully embedded in concrete.
The bottom U channel is fully embedded in concrete hence the stress over the U channel will be
very less. Even though the U channel has been checked to verify the structural adequacy.

Instruction text
- Checking the transfer of loads into the base is required in accordance with ETAG Section 7.1!
- Shear resistance of the base material must be checked according to relevant approval or Eurocode 2 (or national standards).
- The concrete edge capacity is calculated according to CEN Draft 7, Oct. 2003
- The anchor plate is assumed to be sufficiently stiff, in order not to be deformed when subjected to the loading.
