What is the best book for learning the basics of control systems? - Quora Page 4 of 5
Since it's written by an Indian author, the language is very simple, and it
includes a dearth of worked out examples for all sorts of problems in Control
Systems. In College of Engineering, Guindy, all sums in the Control Systems
paper come from this book.
For someone simply taking the course for 6 months, the book is very useful. For
someone actually planning to go in depth into the field, something more
advanced will be required.

While in this course though, when we started to cover root locus, Professor
Bernardin refered repeatedly to "Modern Control Engineering" by Katsuhiko
Ogata (Modern Control Engineering (5th Edition): Katsuhiko Ogata:
9780136156734: Amazon.com: Books ), saying that he is the father of Controls
engineering. I just happened to buy an older edition of the book for $2 on
Amazon before the semester, and while I didn't go through both books
completely (because like you said, 18 hours is tough), I feel they were both
helpful in understanding the concepts associated with Controls.
