ABSTRACT

It is common knowledge that no man is an island. This also applies for sovereign

nations of the world. It is in this light that relations between Nigeria and Ghana would

be examined. Although both countries are not immediate neighbours, they are both

located in the same sub-region and as a result share similar experiences. These

experiences include domination in the colonial period, incessant military coups,

economic problems and expulsions of aliens, in the period after independence. The

above socio-economic and political events created an avenue for relations between

Nigeria and Ghana.

Accordingly, the main aim for undertaking this research is to create an up-to-date

knowledge of the relations Nigeria and Ghana share. To make this knowledge easily

understood, relationship between Nigeria and Ghana from Colonial period to the

present would be examined and interpreted from political, economic and social

perspectives.
