2 INTRODUCTION
♦ You should read the following chapters carefully before you start analyzing your measurement files.
This document is a description of the Anite Finland Ltd’s open non-proprietary ASCII file format. All Nemo
tools produce this type of measurement files and the files can be viewed and analyzed using various
methods or tools; e.g., Nemo Outdoor playback functions, Nemo Analyze, or a text editor.
The file format description includes events and event-related parameters for all network technologies that
can be measured with the Nemo tools.
This document is organized in such a manner that it is easy to locate specific events and parameters. From
the Table of Contents, you will find all events organized in specific groups; e.g., Handover/Handoff events,
GPRS Related events, and Call events. All events and event parameters are listed in the Index table. The
events are also categorized according to different technologies. In other words, if you are looking for all
CDMA events, go to the Index (at the end of this document) and find the keyword CDMA events. Under
that keyword are listed all CDMA related events and the page where that event can be found.
All events and their parameters are presented in table format.
Heading
Parameters table
12 F i l e F o r m a t D es c r i p t i o n
The Heading displays the event name and event ID. In measurement files, the events are marked with the
event ID only.
The Event Info table presents general information of this event; for example, the cellular system where
this event may occur and the Nemo tools which produce this event. All the events produced by Nemo tools
are listed in this document with the respective parameters. The following information is given for each
event:
• Event ID
• Cellular systems: refers to the networks in which the event is used.
• Mode: refers to the measurement mode in which the event appears. The alternatives are voice call,
data call, data, CS data, PS data, location test, fax, pilot scan, RSSI scan, and frequency scan.
• Recorded: describes the state in which the event is recorded. For voice calls the alternatives are idle
and call active. For circuit switched data calls the alternatives are idle, call active, and data transfer.
For PS data calls (GPRS) the alternatives are idle, attach, packet active, and data transfer. For GSM
the state is idle if the phone is on a control channel and call active if the phone is on a traffic channel.
The diagram below describes the different recording states and the events that initiate the state
transitions.
• Nemo Tools: refers to the Nemo tools that produce the event.
♦ Only the event specific parameters are listed here. However, each event also has the time and
location information. But to save space, the time and location parameters are explained only
once in chapter 3.3 Event Structure. The event specific parameters are marked with bold type in
the event examples.
The Parameters table lists all the parameters that belong to this specific event. The number of parameters
differs from one event to another: while one event may have only one parameter, another event may have
as many as ten. Furthermore, the same parameter can appear in several events. For each parameter are
displayed the parameter name, type, and a description of the parameter. If the parameter has been
shaded, it means that this parameter is repeated. In other words, there may appear several of these
parameters in one event.
Finally, an example of how the event might look like in the actual measurement file is given. For example,
this is how you would interpret the example above:
The first eight parameters after the event ID are common to all events. For more information on these
common events, see chapter 3.3 Event Structure.
• LLCU = event ID; i.e., this is a LLC Layer Uplink event
• +32.123456 = longitude
• +64.654321 = latitude
• 55 = geodetic height
• 1234 = distance from starting point in meters
• 1 = GPS status
• 8 = number of satellites in view
• 99 = velocity of the test vehicle in km/h
• 12:13:14:156 = time in the following format [Hour]:[Min]:[Sec].[thousands of seconds]
The events that come after the time are event specific parameters. Only these parameters are explained in
the Parameters table after each event. In the examples, the event specific parameters are marked with
bold type to distinguish them from the common parameters.
• PACCH = sub channel name
• "UI-CMD" = LLC message name
• 01 C0 0B… = Contents of the LLC message
In addition, the parameter LLC data has been shaded, which means that it may appear several times in this
event.

The file will be an ASCII text format. The file has three logical parts: Header, Events, and Footer. The
header includes, for example, information about the measurement configuration and the test system used.
The footer informs about the normal completion of the measurement.
3.1 HEADER
The header consists of several lines the length and number of which is not defined. First line begins with
“***” characters and all other lines with “#” character. The contents of the header depends on the product
used to generate the measurement file. The beginning of all the header lines (excluding the first one) is
marked with a “#” character and a two character identification sign, which is used to make it easier for the
software to find the needed header line from the file. The event signs are described in the example headers
below.
where:
pname = product name of the measurement tool
(id) = possible identification number of the tool
sw ver = software version of the product (major.minor.build)
ff ver = measurement file format version
date = start date of the measurement
time = start time of the measurement
3.2 FOOTER
A footer has only one line. The line begins with “***” characters and the contents of it is:
*** [pname (id)] [sw ver] ff ver [ff ver] [date] [time]
where:
pname = product name of the measurement tool
(id) = possible identification number of the tool
sw ver = software version of the product (major.minor)
ff ver = measurement file format version
date = end date of the measurement
time = end time of the measurement
A N ITE F INL A ND L TD 19
An event is an ASCII string that has an unspecified length. All events are separated from each other with
the “new line” character. Different fields in each event are separated from each other by the space
character. Each event can have different parameters that are to be stored after coordinate and time
information on the same line. This document describes the initial set of events and their parameters.
However, new events or event parameters can be added to the file format later on. If event parameter
string contains spaces, that individual parameter string must be placed between quotation marks.
Example:
[ID] [coordinates ] [time ] [event parameters]
RXL +000.0000 +000.0000 000 000 00 00 01:11:46.120 11 22 33 44 55 ...
3.3.1 COORDINATES
Example:
longitude latitude H D QS V
+32.123422 +64.222211 10 1234 1 8 105
Where H is geodetic height, D is distance from start point in meters, Q is quality of GPS data, S is number
of satellites received, and V is the velocity of the measurement vehicle in km/h. When Q equals one (1),
coordinates are achieved with GPS; when Q equals two (2), coordinates are achieved with DGPS; when Q
equals three (3), coordinates are achieved with DR; when Q equals four (4), coordinates are achieved with
GPS receiver estimation; and if Q equals zero (0), coordinates are last received coordinates (no GPS fix). If
measurements are done without GPS receiver, these parameters are set to zero (0).
3.3.2 TIME
[Hour]:[Min]:[Sec].[thousands of seconds]
Example:
HH:MM:SS.mSS
12:31:59.999
An event specifies what parameters or values are presented in each specific case. The parameter field
should stay unchanged. If additions are needed, new parameters must be added to the end of the event:
Example:
Old event CAA [call type] [count] [phone number]
New event CAA [call type] [count] [phone number] [new parameter]

10039 A required address was omitted from an operation on a socket.
10040 A message sent on a datagram socket was larger than the internal message buffer or some other network
limit, or the buffer used to receive a datagram into was smaller than the datagram itself.
10041 A protocol was specified in the socket function call that does not support the semantics of the socket type
requested.
10042 An unknown, invalid, or unsupported option or level was specified in a getsockopt or setsockopt call.
10043 The requested protocol has not been configured into the system, or no implementation for it exists.
10044 The support for the specified socket type does not exist in this address family.
10045 The attempted operation is not supported for the type of object referenced.
10046 The protocol family has not been configured into the system or no implementation for it exists.
10047 An address incompatible with the requested protocol was used.
10048 Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted.
10049 The requested address is not valid in its context.
10050 A socket operation encountered a dead network.
10051 A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable network.
10052 The connection has been broken due to keep-alive activity detecting a failure while the operation was in
progress.
10053 An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine.
10054 An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.
10055 An operation on a socket could not be performed because the system lacked sufficient buffer space or
because a queue was full.
10056 A connect request was made on an already connected socket.
10057 A request to send or receive data was disallowed because the socket is not connected and (when sending
on a datagram socket using a sendto call) no address was supplied.
10058 A request to send or receive data was disallowed because the socket had already been shut down in that
direction with a previous shutdown call.
10059 Too many references to some kernel object.
10060 A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or
established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.
10061 No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.
10062 Cannot translate name.
10063 Name component or name was too long.
10064 A socket operation failed because the destination host was down.
10065 A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable host.
10066 Cannot remove a directory that is not empty.
10067 A Windows Sockets implementation may have a limit on the number of applications that may use it
simultaneously.
10068 Ran out of quota.
10069 Ran out of disk quota.
10070 File handle reference is no longer available.
10071 Item is not available locally.
10091 WSAStartup cannot function at this time because the underlying system it uses to provide network services
is currently unavailable.
10092 The Windows Sockets version requested is not supported.
10093 Either the application has not called WSAStartup, or WSAStartup failed.
10101 Returned by WSARecv or WSARecvFrom to indicate the remote party has initiated a graceful shutdown
sequence.
