The Gospel of Christ according to John 6: 56-69

Glory to You O’ Father

56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and
I in him.
57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that
eateth me, even he shall live by me.
58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your
fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall
live forever.
59 These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.
60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This
is an hard saying; who can hear it?
61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he
said unto them, Doth this offend you?
62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was
before?
63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words
that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the
beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray
him.
65 And he said, therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto
me, except it were given unto him of my Father.
66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more
with him.
67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, will ye also go away?
68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou
hast the words of eternal life.
69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the
living God.

This is the Gospel of Christ!

Sermon: “Bonding with Jesus Christ”

One could not help but to wonder would anybody want to eat another
human being just to be apart that person.
It became difficult for man to understand what Jesus was saying
because, as always, man only think on the earthly (or material) things.
Even the Jews found this doctrine hard to believe. They came looking
for more of that five barley loaves and two small fishes.
This was some hard teaching that the disciples were receiving. Some of
them even started to back away from such a doctrine.
Eat you Jesus! Drink your Blood! You’ve got to be crazy. Who does this
sir?
What would you say if some preacher tells you to do that? How would
you respond?
The reality is, when we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, study his word,
receive the Holy Ghost and share the Gospel of good news, we
immediately become one with the father.
When we live sacrificially and do the work that Christ commissioned us
to do, we become partakers of the same loaf and the same drink.
Let’s look at some key words in today’s Gospel:
Your Actions:
Eateth my flesh. ]
Drinketh my blood. ] This do in remembrance of me.

Jesus’ Actions:
Dwelleth in me. ] Jesus accepts you just like his father
I in him. ] accepts him. Joint errs.

What will Happen:

Spirit that quickeneth ] Jesus can now use you to become the
forerunner for his second
The flesh profiteth nothing ] coming.

Our Destiny:
To whom shall we go? ] Go ye into all the world
preaching, healing and baptizing
sinners.
The Son of the living God. ] Welcome thou good and faithful
servant. You’re in Heaven.

Jesus had a simple plan of salvation. At some point in our lives, we all
had to be convinced of something.

Jesus, especially in verse 64, had several moments where people did
not understand his teachings.
Let’s look at some of them:

Many of us may have made decisions where we were assured that

everything would be fine, only to find out that we have been misled.

The same way you found it hard to believe, so did some of the Jews and
some of Jesus’ own disciples.

Another biblical character which did not understand Jesus was

Nicodemus. He asked the question, “How can I enter into my mother’s
womb for the second time?”

Another moment when Jesus said, “my Kingdom is not of this world.”
They shouted, “we have no king but Caesar!”

Lastly! “If you destroy this temple, I will rebuild it in three days”.

Today’s gospel pinpoints one of the hardest lessons Jesus ever taught.
One should expect to be criticized after such a statement.

For many of us, the understand is what will get us through to the
knowledge that we have to be one with the father.

In Matthew 16: 13 – 16, Peter confirms this when Jesus ask the
disciples, “Whom do you say I am?” Peter shouted, “Thou art the
Christ, the Son of the living God’.

In verse 68 and 69 of today’s Gospel, Peter had a second chance to

confirm his relationship with Jesus, which reads:

68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou
hast the words of eternal life.
69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the
living God.

Being at one with Jesus shows unity with him.

Jesus is depending on us to be at one with him. Heritage of Redeeming

Love needs to be at one with Jesus.

The bickering, back biting and hatefulness that we Christians do to

others needs to stop. We need to operate more in an atmosphere of
love. We need to find more ways to be good Stewarts for the work of
the Church.

Jesus in depending on us to draw people to him rather than drive them

away.

I put it to you that now is the time to lay aside every weight and be at
one with our fellow brothers and sisters.

This hateful trend that some of us are experiencing is not called for.

John 3:16 reads:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Our bonding with Jesus as worshippers should always be in an

atmosphere of love.

You see! Sometimes, when we partake of our earthly bread and wine,
we make enemies rather than friends. We are not one with each other.
We begin to fuss and fight.
The bread I refer too, is not found in any grocery or health food stores.
The wine I refer to is not found at any bar room or any liquor store.
This bread and this wine comes from a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Yes! Having received Jesus as our Savior in our lives, we are now joint
errs with him. We are one in the spirit. We are one in the Lord. They
will know we are Christians by our love.

Saints of God, let the whole world see Christ in us. Let them know
about the love of Christ. Convince them that they should partake of the
same loaf and the same drink which was prepared for us by Jesus
Christ.

Let them know that we receive the Lord’s supper in church which
signifies that we are one with Jesus. Anyone can join in this
momentous occasion. All they have to do is repent of all sins in their
lives and work and live for Jesus Christ.

Trust me! That will be the best load of bread and the sweetest drink of
wine you ever had.

Open up your minds to receive Jesus. Open your heart sand receive ye
the love of Christ. Let it constrain you. Let it keep you in unity with the
one who suffered and died for you.

Philippians 1:25 reads:

And having confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you
all for your furtherance and joy and faith.
Finally,! Isaiah 26:3 reads:

Thou will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee:
because he trusted in thee.
