The anatomy of a ukulele

N Four strings, a dozen or so frets, and a classic "tiny guitar"shape.

N You strum a ukulele about halfivay along the strings, roughly where the
neck artaches to the body.

N The fourth srring is usually not the lowest. Most ukuleles have the G
string tuned an octave higher than you'd expect.

Key...... '"Tuning pegs

Peg tuners are traditional, but unless

they are well made it can be hard to
keep strings in tune with them.

You can also think of it as "fret zero":

AD F#

Tenor ukuleles can be

tuned GCEA, with a

more obscure tunings
as well.
Relative tuning
If you don't have anything to test the uke's tuning with,
you can at least get it in tune with itself.

1. Start with the open C string. The 4th fret

on the C string is the note E. Play this and
tune the E string until it matches.

On the E string, the 3rd fret is a G.

Tune the G string to it.

3. And the 5th fret on the E string is

A, so tune the A string to it.
