Product Abstract
Each student in the Independent Research Program must carry out an authentic,
advanced research project, which is capable of being evaluating its quality,
authenticity, and novelty. The following information written by the student provides
an overview of the product proposal as planned

Research Title: Reference Pricing: A Solution to Rising Drug Prices?

Purpose: To find how a reference pricing policy could be implemented within the
U.S. healthcare system

Expected Product/Outcome: Increase overall knowledge of drug pricing policies.


Identify potential benefits and drawbacks of implementing a reference pricing
policy in the United States

Relevance: In recent years, prescription drug prices in the United States have been
rising astronomically, yet there have not been any successful policy changes on a
national scale.

Audience: The research will be applicable to most U.S. citizens as many people rely
on medications

Process:
1. Read and synthesize numerous scholarly articles pertaining to the topic of
overall drug pricing
2. Choose a specific pricing policy – reference pricing, and research that more in
depth
3. Receive assistance in the research process from an advisor who is an expert
in the field of research, Dr. Christine Leopold
4. Write a research paper synthesizing information obtained
5. Create a display board to be shown at the River Hill Display Fair
6. Present findings to classes at River Hill High School in order to spread
knowledge of topic to peers
