Abstract

Indonesia as the largest archipelago in the world is also known as a country with plenty of
natural resource that can used as traditional medicinal plants. Aceh tradisional virgin coconut
oil or Pliek U has been used as food and topical traditional drug in Aceh. Pliek U that
processed from traditionally fermentation of coconut meat is a potential source of free fatty
acids (FFA) like lauric acid with antimicrobial activity. The aims of theses studies are to
determine the activity of ethanolic Pliek U extract (EEPU), cream of EEPU, ethanolic Pliek U from
hexane residue extract (EERHPU) and cream of EERHPU against Staphylococcus aureus by
observing the formation of inhibiting zone. The method used is laboratory experimental,
with Clindamysin as a positive control. Each EEPU, cream of EEPU, EERHPU and cream of
EERHPU were formulate with concentration 4%. The antibacterial activity test was done by
disc diffusion method. The result showed EEPU and cream of EEPU has antibacterial
activity against Staphylococcus aureus with diameter inhibition zone at 8.66±0.57 mm and
2.11±3.66 mm respectively, whereas EERHPU and cream of EERHPU has no antibacterial
activity against Staphylococcus aureus.
