The Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun, a constituent laboratory of Council of


Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) is a premier National institute in the areas of
Petroleum & hydrocarbon industry. It develops and transfers technologies to industries in
the area of petroleum refining, natural gas, petrochemicals, chemicals and utilisation of
petroleum products, provides technical services and imparts training to the personnel of
the related industry and has strong international collaborations with industries and

developments (of which thirty eight have been commercialised with a cumulative refining
capacity of over 38 million tonnes per annum), twenty –odd prestigious National and

Job Requirement: - This is a senior level position and the incumbent is expected to have
relevant experience in Industrial/Consulting/Business Driven R&D Management. The
incumbent should possess excellent communication skills, in- depth knowledge of the
Energy Industry both in India as well as abroad and should have strong networks at
various levels. Must have proven & demonstrable skills for marketing of technologies ,in
formulating science and industry related research policies and IPR management and
must have familiarity with use of latest information technology tools & aids. The
incumbent will be expected to advise institute management in formulation of Business
Plan and the development and implementation of strategies for Technology
Marketing/Licensing etc. His responsibilities shall also include science dissemination,
preparation of project proposals, interaction with clients and preparing sales materials,
brochures etc.

(ii) Scientist 'F' Gr.IV(5), Post No- 2(F), Area- AFLAD, No of post: - ONE, (UR)
Essential Qualification & Experience :- Ph.D (Mechanical. Eng) with 9 years of relevant
experience.
Job Requirement This is a senior level position and the incumbent will be expected to
provide leadership and R&D management to the team of scientists and engineers in
Automotive Fuels and Lubricants Applications Division. The candidate should be
conversant with the state-of-the-art mass measurement testing and Certification in Euro
IV and beyond norms for transient dynamometer operation including measurement of
gaseous and particulate emissions, testing of two/three wheelers and LCV on chassis
dynamometers including CVS and emission analyzers. The incumbent will be expected to
initiate new R&D projects in the areas of power transmissions in automobiles,
development of hybrid vehicle, power management systems, HCCI combustion
technology and use of future fuels. Must have demonstrated proficiency in senior level
R&D management in frontier areas of automotive engines development as evidenced
from publications /patents and strong networking with automotive industry.

(iii) Scientist 'F' Gr.IV(5), Post No- 3(F), Area- Catalysis, No of post: - One (UR)

Job Requirement This is a senior level position and the incumbent will be expected to
provide overall leadership to the R&D activities of the Institute related to development of
catalytic processes for petroleum refining, environment control and energy industry
including energy storage. Should have strong research background in the area of
catalysis and specially its applications in the energy sector as evidenced by
publications/patents. Must have demonstrated proficiency at senior level R&D
management.Proven experience in process development and its commercialization will
be an added advantage.

Job Requirement This is a senior level position and the incumbent will be expected to
provide R&D management and leadership to the team of scientists and engineers in the
fields of heavy oil processing / solvent dewaxing-deoiling/ lube extraction, solvent
deasphalting, bitumen and gasification of carbonaceous materials.The incumbent will be
expected to explore new cutting edge research pathways for processing and upgradation
of heavy and sour crudes, shale oils, tar sands, naphthenic crudes leading to technology
development. Candidate should be conversant with process simulation and modeling,
process integration and IPR Management & must have demonstrated proficiency in
senior level R&D management and proven track record to conceive and lead large multi-
disciplinary projects as evidenced from papers/ patents/ technologies commercialized/
transferred.

Essential Qualification & Experience :- Ph.D (Chemistry) with seven years of relevant

Job Requirement To provide leadership to the activities of the HPLC,GC-MS,FTIR ,NMR
and SFC groups in developing new analytical methods for characterization of petroleum
products. The incumbent is expected to interface with R&D groups working in the institute
on biofuels production and biomass conversion process development and as such must
have sound knowledge of these areas including advanced analytical techniques for their
characterization and evaluation as evidenced from publications/patents. The incumbent
should have proven capability to conceive and lead large multi-disciplinary projects
involving research in renewable energy.

(ii) Scientist 'EII' Gr.IV(4), Post No- 2(EII), Area- Heavy Oil Processing , No of
post: - One (UR).
Essential Qualification & Experience :- Ph.D (Chem) with 7 years of relevant
experience Or Ph.D (Chem. Eng) with 6 years relevant experience OR M.E/M.Tech

Job requirement : The incumbent will be expected to explore new cutting edge research

Job requirement : The candidate would be expected to create a centre of excellence for
carrying out independent research in the areas of advanced absorbent materials
development for various applications related to energy industry including but not limited to
sour gas treatment (removal of SO2/CO2/H2S) and modeling and simulation of these
processes. Must have hands on experience on absorbents development and proven track
record of conceiving new project ideas in this challenging field as evidenced from
papers/patents/technologies commercialized/transferred.

(iv) Scientist 'EII' Gr.IV(4), Post No- 4(EII), Area- Bio-fuels & Bio-Lubricants, No of

Job requirement : The incumbent will be expected to lead a research team on
biodegradable lubricants and additives development from a variety of petroleum as well
as renewable feedstock. This is an upcoming area and hence the incumbent is expected
to have proven track record of conceiving new products and their performance evaluation
for various applications as evidenced from papers/patents/technologies
commercialized/transferred. The incumbent should have experience of R&D in the area
of bio lubricant development and evaluation, bio fuels production and should be
conversant with analytical techniques like NMR, HPLC, FTIR,GC-MS used for petroleum
products characterization, bio-fuels and industrial lubricant characterization.

Job requirement : The incumbent will be expected to provide leadership and R & D
management to the team of scientists in Biotechnology area and must have proven track
record of conceiving new project ideas in this challenging field as evident from
papers/patents/technologies commercialized/transferred. He/she should be conversant
with the state-of-the-art Molecular Biology, Cell culture and Fermentation techniques.

have strong research background in the area of catalysis and specially its applications in
hydro processing and in the energy sector.

Job Requirement : To provide leadership to the R&D activities related to development of
advanced materials including mesoporous/nano materials etc. for applications in catalytic
petroleum refining processes, sepration process, environment control and energy industry
including energy storage. Should have strong background on materials characterization,
catalysis and reaction kinetics as evidenced from publications/patents. Proven experience
in process development and its commercialization will be an added advantage.

(ii) Scientist 'EI' Gr.IV(3), Post No- 2(EI), Area- IDCD, No of post: - One (UR)
Essential Qualification & Experience: - M.E./M.Tech. (Mech Engg) with 5 years of
relevant experience or Ph.D (Mech Engg) with 3 years of relevant experience.
Job Requirement: - To provide leadership to Research and development in the area of
Industrial and domestic combustion. The emphasis will be to develop multi fuel
capabilities, hardware design improvements, fuels evaluation, emissions characterization
and reduction in boiler operations. Candidate is reqired to do R&D for development of
combustion devices using coal, biomass and petroleum fuels (both industrial as well as
domestic).Candidate should be conversant with various national codes and energy
efficiency mission of the Govt of India. Proven track record in fundamental studies in
combustion research will be an added advantage.

(iii) Scientist 'EI' Gr.IV(3), Post No- 3(EI), Area- Chemical Sciences, No of post: -
One (UR)
Essential Qualification & Experience :- Ph.D (Chemistry) with 4 years of relevant
experience.
Job Requirement :-To provide leadership for development of new synthetic routes for
petrochemical and specialty chemicals, CO2 value addition using new and innovative
pathways. Must have proven track record of conceiving new project ideas in the
challenging field of green synthetic chemistry and novel synthetic methodologies for
organic reactions as evident from publications/patents.

(iv) Scientist 'EI' Gr.IV(3), Post No- 4(EI), Area- Engineering Science Division, No

Essential Qualification & Experience :- M.E/M.Tech.(Electrical Engg) with with 5 years
of relevant experience or Ph.D (Electrical Engineering) with 3 years of relevant
experience.
Job Requirement : Execution, operation & maintenance of electrical installations of
whole campus of the Institute. Thorough knowledge of Indian Electricity rules/ National
Building code, fire and electrical safety norms etc. Experience in Preparation of tender
documents, estimates, as per CPWD norms and applicable rules. Experience in air
conditioning of buildings, water supply, pumping systems, energy efficient buildings,
National Energy Auditors certification of BEE India would be an added advantage.

Job Requirement: - Characterization of petroleum products and related materials using a
combination of techniques such as GC,GC-MS,HPLC, XRD, FTIR, SEM & NMR.
Managing, operating and up-keeping the above instruments and providing inputs to all in-
house and sponsored projects of the Institute, besides doing research projects
independently/or jointly collaborating with other scientists. The incumbent will be expected
to conceive and initiate their own research projects while interfacing with R&D groups
working in the institute.

Essential Qualifications : Ph.D (Chemistry) with one year of relevant experience OR

Job Requirement : R&D activities related to petroleum product characterization, crude
oil evaluation .Well versant with Standards and Specifications for petroleum products both
national as well as international .Must have hands on experience in working with modern
analytical instruments used for petroleum products testing and evaluation. The incumbent
will be expected to conceive and initiate their own research projects.Knowledge in use of
advanced statistical techniques desired.

(iii) Scientist C Gr.IV(2), Post No- 3(C), Area- Bio-Technology, No of post: - Three,

Essential Qualifications - M.E./M.Tech. (Biotechnology) with two years of relevant
experience or Ph.D (Biotechnology) with one year relevant experience OR Ph.D (Biotech
Engg).
Job Requirement : Process development and scale up studies on bio-fuel from biomass
,fermentation, metagenomics, metabolisms, microbial strain improvement and enzyme
bio-catalysis. The incumbent will be expected to conceive and initiate own research
projects in this area. Relevant experience the Bio-prospecting & characterization of
microbial enzymes, fermentation of sugars and hydrocarbon biotransformation,
proteomics, bioinformatics, bio-catalysis and analytical techniques such as HPLC,GC-MS,
electrophoresis etc above will be an additional advantage.

(iv) Scientist 'C' Gr.IV (2), Post No- 4(C), Area- Chemical Sciences, No of posts: -

Essential Qualifications: Ph.D (Chemistry) with one year of relevant experience OR

Job Requirement: - Development of new synthetic routes for petrochemical and
specialty chemicals, CO2 value addition using new and innovative pathways. Good
knowledge in development of green synthetic chemistry will be an added advantage.
Experience in synthesis of polymers and their characterization using different instrumental
techniques like NMR, XRD, DSC, and GPC will be an added advantage.

Job Requirement :- R&D for Development of solar cells .The incumbent will be expected
to conceive and initiate own research projects in this area and is expected to have
hands on experience in developing organic and inorganic advanced materials.
Experience in solar cell chemistry ,development of materials for organic and/or inorganic
solar cell such as thin film based, DSSC,QDSSC will be an added advantage.

Job Requirement :- Technology development in broad areas of refinery thermal
conversion processes, lube refining and solvent extraction in oil, petrochemical, gas as
well as biofuels production & production of specialized bitumen including modified
bitumen and related materials . The incumbent will be expected to conceive and initiate
own research projects in this area. Candidates are expected to conversant with /having
hands on experience in process development of advanced carbon materials like needle
coke, heavy oil processing, thermal conversion processes like delayed coking/vis-
breaking with sound knowledge of petroleum products characterization,

(vii) Scientist 'C' Gr.IV (2), Post No- 7(C) , Area- Catalysis & Material Sciences, No of

Job Requirement : R&D activities related to development of advanced novel materials
such as mesoporous/nano materials etc. for applications in catalytic petroleum refining

Job Requirement: - Execution, operation & maintenance of Information Technology
ifrastructure of the Institute. Management, system administration of existing ICT

General conditions/Instructions and benefits:

I. Benefits & Prospects: (a) All posts carry usual allowances i.e., DA, HRA, and
Transport Allowance etc. as admissible to Central Govt. Employees posted in Dehradun.
(b) In addition to the emoluments, benefits such as Defined Contribution Pension
Scheme, Leave Travel Concession, Reimbursement of Medical expenses for self and
dependents, Conveyance Advance, House Building Advance etc. are available as per
G.O.I rules, as applicable to the employees of CSIR (c) Promotion prospects at CSIR/IIP

II. Relaxation: Upper age limit relaxable by 5 years in the case of SC/ST and by 3 years
in the case of OBC candidates for the posts which are reserved for the respective
category. Relaxation in Upper age will be given to PWDs candidates as per CSIR/GOI
orders issued from time to time. Relaxation of upper age limit for Ex-servicemen is
admissible as per rules. Relaxation in the upper age limit of 5 years applicable for
persons who had ordinarily been domiciled in the Kashmir Division of the State of J&K
during the period of 01/01/1980 to 31/12/1989 subject to production of a certificate from
the District Magistrate in the Kashmir Division within whose jurisdiction he had ordinarily
resided; OR from any other authority designated in this behalf by the Government of J&K.
Relaxation in age limit upto 5 years for the post of scientists may be allowed to
Council/Government/Autonomous Bodies/Public Sector Employees in accordance with
the instructions and orders issued by the CSIR/GOI from time to time in this regard .
Relaxation in age, qualification and/or experience prescribed, may be allowed by the
Competent Authority where sufficient numbers of candidates are not likely to be available
for filling up of the posts.

III. General Conditions: 1. Age, qualification and experience will be reckoned as on the
last date fixed for receipt of application form (i.e.,29/10/2010). 2. The period of experience
in a discipline/area of work, where prescribed, shall be counted after the date of acquiring
the minimum prescribed educational qualification for that Group/Grade. 3. Candidates
applying for more than one Post No. should apply separately for each Post No.
indicating the Post Code and Post No. of the post accompanied by separate
requisite DDs of Rs.100/- each. 4. Applications not accompanied with prescribed fees
and incomplete applications will be summarily rejected. 5. Applications from the
candidates working in Govt. Departments & Public Sector Undertakings will be
considered only if forwarded through proper channel and with a clear certificate that the
applicant will be relieved within one month of receipt of appointment order. 6. Mere
fulfilling of minimum prescribed qualifications and experience will not vest any right in a
candidate for being called for interview. The Director reserves the rights to call for
interview only those candidates who in his opinion are likely to be suitable and will not
entertain any correspondence in this regard. The candidates should, therefore, mention
all the qualifications and experience in the relevant field over and above the minimum
prescribed qualifications. 7. Outstation candidates called for interview will be paid to and
fro single second-class rail fare/ordinary bus fare by the shortest route to the place of
interview from the Railway station/Bus Stand nearest to the candidate's normal place of
residence, as per rules. 8. All posts are identified suitable for orthopodically handicapped
(One Arm and One Leg) candidates. 9. SC/ST, PWDs and regular employees of CSIR
are exempted from payment of application fee. 10. The number of vacancies in each code
is provisional and may vary. (10) Candidate of Indian Origin settled abroad of proven
merit, as evidenced by their research work/publications, if found suitable for the
post applied, may be considered by the Selection Committee, In Absentia, on
specific request of the candidate. (11) Exceptional academic records/achievements
at all levels are desirable for all posts. (12) Relevant experience means experience
broadly in the areas of job requirements of the particular post.

IV. How to Apply: Interested candidate should visit our website www.iip.res.in and fill up
the application form online on the link available under Job, take print out of system
generated filled up application form, put signature, paste recent passport size photograph.
Completed applications in all respects, accompanied by attested copies of certificates,
testimonials in support of age, educational qualifications, experience, etc. mentioned in
the application, alongwith non-refundable application fee of Rs.100/-(US$25 in case
candidate applying from abroad) for general and OBC category candidates, by means of
DD (issued by State Bank of India only except the candidate applying from abroad)
valid for at least 6 months, drawn in favour of the “Director, IIP, Dehradun” payable at
State Bank of India, Dehradun, should be sent to the Controller of Administration,
Indian Institute of Petroleum, PO- IIP, Mohkampur, Hardwar Road, Dehradun-248
005 (Uttarakhand) so as to reach on or before 29.10.2010. If any candidate faces
trouble in filling up the application form online, he/she may download the application form
available on our website or the same can be obtained from office (Reception) during the
office hours, fill it up and may send completed application alogwith all the requisite
documents, DD etc as stated above.

Canvassing in any form and /or bringing in any influence political or otherwise will be
treated as a disqualification for the post. Interim enquiries will not be attended to.
