Sesión virtual “Describing the Distribution Center”

Bogotá D.C, Colombia

2017
INTRODUCTION

If it is known with the requirement of a product and if so, it can be supplied

instantaneously, it is not necessary to store it. But even so the distribution
activities may be able to give immediate answers. Due to these factors, there is
a need for a logistics distribution network as an effective solution for the
treatment of the problems associated with the uncertainty of the demand, the
cost and duration of transport and the demands of the profitability of the
organizations. In these logistical networks, Regulatory Warehouses and
Distribution Centers (CDs) are important as nodes towards consumption points.

Distribution Centers are a key success factor for the effective management of
the chain of distribution and distribution of organizations that grow in sales,
however, over time they have not been valued by the high threats of modern
organizations and with many failures and opportunities for improvement in their
storage processes and sizing of the impact on the logistics operation of
distribution centers that can do their daily activities without a comprehensive
planning approach, and therefore, without the application of best practices in
the activities that are currently critical such as the process of receipt, storage,
separation, enlistment and clearance of goods, and that is understood and
applied in a progressive and effective way contributes to the generation of value
in the logistics operation of the company through the effective application of
techniques, methodology, tools and technological developments in order to
convert the logistics of the distribution center into a competitive advantage for
modern companies and configure efficient and effective performance for the
increase of the service level for internal and external customers.

The analysis, design and implementation of CD allow us to discover and create

an efficient flow from the supplier to the final consumer, that is, the function of a
logistic process influenced by 2 factors, the variability of the products and the
sales volume, it is logical that a higher sales volume greater complexity in the
operations of the distribution center, greater variability; this reference to the
instability of the houses by sales of each product, the height of the highest
values of the sales makes that the complexity in the distribution centers owed to
the analysis, taking to the technology as our ally in the aggregation of value.

The location of the distribution center (CEDI), The distribution center is located
at Kilometer 17 via Ibague - Bogotá Corregimiento Buenos Aires.

 The reasons why this place was chosen because it has good access roads
to important cities such as Bogotá, Ibagué, Neiva, Florencia, Palmira, Cali.
 It is the solution to the mobilization of heavy cargo, warehousing and storage
of goods in the Ibagué - Bogotá - Buenaventura, Ibagué - Atlantic Coast,
with the best location in the center of the Golden Triangle of Colombia and
indispensable within the concept for the Free trade agreements.
 It is composed of entrepreneurs, visionaries, investors, industrialists,
development managers, committed to the development and growth of the
region, with the aim of supporting the equity increase of the investor via
valuation.
 Aimed at industrial, transport, distribution, agribusiness and Foreign Trade
management companies, in general, those who handle large volumes of
goods or who are related to cargo activities for marketing and distribution.

The creation of a distribution center aims to store raw material or finished

product to be able to get the products to their final destination, in the most
effective, fast and economic way possible, allowing the company to keep
customers permanently and adequately supplied. according to the customer
service policies, in accordance with the demanding requirements of the
market.
• Increase profitability by optimizing resources.
• Have indispensable load handling equipment
• Have reliable information about their deliveries and inventories.
• Have the product available for its customers with a low level of inventories.
• In short, give a better use to what you have and have what is needed in the
right place for the flow of your processes.

ADVANTAGE
• Increase in profitability => Avoid heavy investments in capital
• Reduced risk.
• Cost reduction => Increase of the benefit. By delegating on experts, who in
addition to being focused on logistics have a critical mass that allows
economies of scale.
 Variability cost => Go from fixed costs to variables. Pay according to the
volume. If I move, I pay little.
 Improvement in the quality and level of service.
 Lighten the structure of the company => Lets focus on the logistics strategy
and not on the execution. Execution is outsourced, but not control.
 Others: Take advantage of the operators' distribution network, opening to a
new market.
 Streamlines product inputs and outputs.

The details that I consider for the construction of a distribution center are:

 High capital investment.

 Higher costs than rented warehouses, if the use is low.
 Difficulty in strategic location changes.
 The purchase lots are large
 Higher investment and demand for more storage space.
 The cycles between the placement of one order and another are very long,
therefore, it will be more difficult to know what the future demand will be
when good inventory management is not generated.
