Refer to the problem below to answer items 1-8.

A game machine can be rented for ₱1,500 for three days, but for the fourth day onwards, an
additional cost of ₱300 per additional day is added. Note that we will not consider a half of a day.

1. How much will you pay if you rented the game machine for 1 day?
2. How much will the owner of the game machine receive if it was rented for 6 days?
3. How much will you pay if you return the game machine lunch time of the 9 th day?
4. If 𝒚 represents the cost of renting the game machine, write an equation that best illustrates your rental fee
for the first three days.
5. Considering the same representation for the rental fee, write an equation that best illustrates your rental fee
for more than three days in terms of 𝒙.
6. Write a function, 𝑹, that will best describe the problem in terms of 𝒙.
7. What are the allowable values of 𝒙 to be used as inputs in your answer in #6?
8. How many days must the game machine be rented for the owner to receive ₱10,500?

Refer to the problem below to answer items 9-14.

A piece of wire 216 cm long is to be cut into two pieces, each to be bent to make a square. The
length of a side of one square is to be 2 cm greater than the twice the length of the other.

9. If the longer piece of the cut wire measures 𝒔 cm, what is the measurement of the shorter piece of wire?
10. What is the formula use to obtain the perimeter of a square?
11. Given your answer is #10, what is the measure of each side of the smaller square?
12. What is the formula for finding the area of a square?
13. What mathematical model will represent the area, 𝑨, of the smaller square as a function of its side, 𝑠?
14. What is the area of the smaller square?
Refer to the statement below to answer items 15-18.

The sum of two numbers is 94. The second number is 2 less than thrice the first number.

15. If the 1st number is 𝒏, what is the 2nd number equal to?
16. What mathematical model will show that the sum of the two numbers is 94?
17. What is the value of the 1st number?
18. What is the value of the 2nd number?

Refer to the problem below to answer items 19-24.

A local museum charges admission to groups to the following policy. Groups fewer than 50 are
charged at a rate of ₱40 per person, while groups of 50 people or more are charged a reduced
rate of ₱30 per person.

19. If 𝒔 refers to the size of a group who enters the local museum, what equation will represent their admission
cost, 𝒚, if they have fewer than 50 members?
20. If 𝒔 refers to the size of a group who enters the local museum, what equation will represent their admission
cost, 𝒚, if they have 50 members or more?
21. Find the mathematical model expressing the amount that the group will be charged for admission, 𝒇 as a
function of its size, 𝒔.
22. How much will a group of 49 people pay for the admission cost?
23. How much will a group of 50 people pay for the admission cost?
24. How much will a group of 49 people save in admission cost if they can recruit one additional member and
will pay for him/her?

Lucille is 4 times as old as Nicole. Six years from now, she will be twice as old as Nicole.

25. At present, if Nicole is 𝒙 years old, how old is Lucille?

26. How old is Lucille 6 years from now?
27. How old is Nicole 6 years from now?
28. What mathematical model will illustrate the relationship of Nicole’s and Lucille’s ages six years from now?
29. How old is Lucille now?
30. How old is Nicole now?

35. What is the area, 𝑨𝒔 , of each side of the box in terms of 𝒙?
36. What is the surface area, 𝑨, of the box described in the problem in terms of 𝒙?
37. What is the total cost, 𝑪𝒃 , for the top and bottom of the box in terms of 𝒙?
38. What is the total cost, 𝑪𝒔 , for the sides of the box in terms of 𝒙?
39. What mathematical model would best represent the cost of the box, 𝑪, as a function of its length, 𝒙?
40. How much will it cost to manufacture a box whose square base has a measure of 3 feet per side?
