Time Motivation and Introduction:
Align these with the segment
9:00am 1. Have students sit on the mat. where they will be introduced.
2. Recap previous lessons and pose questions to the class:
Recently, we have been wondering about our inner strength,
where it comes from and how it helps us to make good choices.
Ask students to think, pair and share these wondering
questions to engage their prior knowledge:
Where does our inner strength come from?
How does our inner strength help us to do good?
Does our inner strength change as we get older?
How is inner strength different from physical strength?
3. State purpose of lesson to students:
- Today we’re going to look at the ways in which God can
change bad situations into good.

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key Questions):

1. Display the Story of Joseph (Helped by the Word Resource

9:05am Sheet 3, see attachment) on the Interactive Whiteboard. Story of Joseph document on
IWB for all students to read.
2. Read the story aloud to the students.
3. Discuss the passage with the students:
- What happened in this story?
- How did God bring the good out of the evil that was committed
by Joseph and his brothers?

God’s power is greater than sin. This story is just one example of
how God’s power is so great that it can bring the good out of every
situation.

4. Ask students to close their eyes:

Think about a time where something happened to you that was not
good. How did God make the situation better for you?

5. Call on some students to provide answers, examples could

include:
- Once I was feeling upset because my dog died, but God turned
this into good by giving me lots of support from my family and
friends.
- Once I was feeling left out by my friends, but God turned this
into good by giving me the strength to talk to them and work out
the problem.
9:15am
6. Explain the activity for the students to complete:
You are going to make a concertina book that shows how God can turn
bad situations into good. You need to:
- Fold this strip of paper in half, then in half again.
- Open the strip back up and fold it back and forth to make a
concertina.
- Illustrate a bad situation you have been in on one side of the
paper.
- On the back of the illustration, write ‘God turned this into good
by…’ and explain how God made this situation better. Paper for students to use
- Fill out the rest of the concertina with 2 more illustrations and
explanations.
7. Instruct students to go back to their desks, collecting a strip of
paper for them to use.
8. Walk around the room and observe students’ progress.

9:35am Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)

1. Gain students attention.

2. Ask students to turn to the person next to them and share an
example of a situation they illustrated and how God turned it to
good.
3. Call on some students and have them share what their partner
said.
4. Re-emphasise how God is greater than all evil and he shows
us the good that can come from our inner strength to change
situations.

9:40am Transition: (What needs to happen prior to the next lesson?)

1. Students need to put their concertina book into their religion
