A low cost prototype device for efficient irrigation,
weather prediction and water management. Manav Shah Sachit Goyal The ultimate farmer’s tool 11 August 2015 The Ultimate Farmers’ Tool The ultimate farmers’ tool is a low cost device which monitors the moisture and health of the soil, irrigates a farm accordingly and also predicts and checks for approaching storm, heavy rain and dry weather. Sometimes farmers in India due to lack of awareness and harsh weather conditions lose the quality of the soil. We look forward to tackle this problem in our project. Plants need just the right amount of water to grow. Too less, might decrease the quality of the produce and too much might lead too runoff. This device regulates irrigation to just the right amount. This is achieved through soil moisture sensors readings which dictate the device, the moisture content of the soil through the amount electrical resistance offered by dry soil(23.46% returning voltage). Heavy rains and storms might over water the soil leading to run-off and degradation and droughts or dry weather may render the soil dry. To compensate for the water collected due to precipitation, the device predicts approaching rains with the help of an electronic barometer. The rate of change of pressure determines the climatic conditions. This device is programmed to analyse different patterns of pressure changes that lead to different weather phenomena. Inbuilt algorithms analyse the weather and find the best, most accurate prediction from previous data (This gives the best weather prediction for that region and altitude). It also manages drawing of water from different water sources of the village so as to maintain adequate levels of water in those sources and warns the user of depleting levels of water (using a water level sensor). Another feature of our device is that it warns the user against severe storms, which may help save the lives of people living in the remotest of places as it works completely independently without internet connection and runs on a 9 volt battery. This device is based on an Arduino UNO micro- controller and is programmed through an Arduino C compiler.
