FLEET INSTRUCTION MANUAL

BRIDGE ARRIVAL CHECKLIST

Twelve hours prior to arrival deck equipment, machinery and lighting should be checked for
correct operation
Send ETA to agent, port authority, pilot station as required. Ensure information that may be
required by authorities is readily available on the bridge.
Establish contact with pilot station as soon as possible. Determine pilot boarding time,
confirm boarding position, side on which pilot ladder is required and height of ladder above
waterline.

Give at least two hours notice to duty engineer of standby time.

Inform Chief Officer / IDF Foreman of time crew will be required.


Passage Plan checked for arrival requirements. Tides calculated and under-keel clearance
checked.

All charts corrected and up to date.

Ballast rearranged if necessary.

Echo sounder and course recorder tested and running

Synchronize all bridge clocks and engine room clock. Check operation of manoeuvering
printers. Check times on course and engine movement recorders.

Double up steering motors and put helmsman on the wheel. Give sufficient time for the
helmsman to become accustomed before manoeuvring commence.

Check ship communication systems. Walkie Talkies and telephones.

Have gangway checked and sea lashing removed for quick and efficient rigging when
alongside.

Check astern movement of main engines.

Test operation of bow thruster.

Deck lighting switched on. / Necessary flags hoisted.

Have anchors cleared away, walked out and restowed; men standing by on forecastle.
