II. Synopsis

The report is an earnest endeavor made to understand the pre-purchase and

post-purchase behavioral study of institutional buyers regarding fire protection &
Safety. The researchers were required to see pre-purchase and post-purchase
behavior of institutional buyers and how Indian fire protection can adopt changes
in market strategy and bring out the potential in Market for Indian Fire Protection,
so that the company could maintain the market leadership in the existing business
scenario in installation of firefighting system and safety measures used against
fire.

During the course of research, we’ve visited around 101 M.I.D.C units and
25 construction sites 28 hospitals and 24 petrol pumps 21 other institutions, and
analyzed all major issue related to fire protection & safety and analyzed how
industrial units and Builders are aware of maintaining fire safety system and
maintain their system up to date.

Their study also comprises the comparative analysis between Indian Fire
Protection and other competitive agency dealing in providing fire safety features
in M.I.D.C units, Hospitals, Petrol Pumps, commercial and residential units and
other institutions. This research project is Survey-based research and the
respondents were owners or respective department heads or authorized persons
who have in-charge of installing such fire safety system under hospitals, petrol
pumps, industrial units, construction sites, apartments and public places which are
suggested to use such fire safety system. This research project has certain findings
which they have found during the course of the study and recommended various
corrective measures for it.

This study also is very informative to the students who want to understand
and undertake assignments in the industry. This study also facilitates the pre-
purchase and post-purchase behavioral study of institutional buyers in comparison
with fire safety who can understand the importance and explore the new market
strategy.

1. Introduction

1.1 What is Fire & How Fire Works?

A fire is somewhat much more accurate. A fire is basically a chemical reaction

which is called as combustion. When combustion takes place, substances
like wood, paper, oil, or coal (all of which are made of chemicals, even if you don't
think of them in this way immediately) combine with oxygen in the air to produce
water, carbon dioxide, waste gases and a
terrible of heat.

1.1 a) A Fire Triangle

Fire happens when three things are in the same

time at the same place:

 Fuel (which burns - such as wood or

coal).
 Heat.
 Oxygen (from air).

When all these things are present then the fire can burn; when at least one
of them is removed it will stop. As any fire-fighter explains you, opting out a fire
involves breaking the fire triangle - which means removing the fuel, the heat, or
the oxygen. Suppose a pan on top of your cooker is set on a fire, the first thing
you normally do is switch off cooker and stop the heat. If that doesn't work, you
can soak a towel with water and place it very carefully on the pan (or use a fire
blanket). The towel is designed to remove the supply of oxygen to the fire (the
water stops catching fire to the towel and making things worse). Every fire-
fighting technique you can think of involves removing oxygen, heat, or fuel
sometimes two of those things at the same time.

“A Study on Fire Safety System Pre-Purchase and Post-Purchase Behavior of Institutional Buyers”

1.1 b) How Fire Works?

At the point when the wood comes to around 300 degrees Fahrenheit (150 degrees
Celsius), the warmth decays a portion of the cellulose material that makes up the
wood.

A portion of the disintegrated material is discharged as unpredictable gases. We

know these gases as smoke. Smoke is mixes of hydrogen, carbon, and oxygen.
Whatever is left of the material structures scorch, which is about unadulterated
carbon, and fiery debris, which is the majority of the unburnable minerals in the
wood (calcium, potassium, et cetera). The scorch is the thing that you purchase
when you purchase charcoal. Charcoal is wood that has been warmed to expel
almost the greater part of the unstable gases and desert the carbon. That is the
reason a charcoal fire consumes with no smoke.

1.1 c) Types of Fires

Not all flames are the same. Consuming might be arranged into at least
one of the accompanying flame classes and your fire security pro will choose the
correct fire quencher size and operator for the risk.

Class A: Class A fires are fires in ordinary flammable such as wood, paper, cloth,
rubber, and many plastics.

Class B: Class B fires are fires in combustive liquids such as gasoline, petroleum
greases, tars, oils, oil-based paints, solvents, alcohols. Class B fires also include
burnable gases such as propane and butane. Class B fires do exclude fires
including cooking oils and oil.

Class C: Class C fires from gas, i.e. fires involving gas type fire.

Class D: Class D fires will be fires in ignitable metals, for example, magnesium,
titanium, zirconium, sodium, lithium, and potassium.

Class K: Class K fires are fires in cooking oils and greases such as animal and
vegetable fats.

1.2 FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEMS

A putting out fires framework is likely the most critical of the building
administrations, as its point is to ensure human life and property, entirely in a
specific order.

It comprises of three fundamental parts:

• A huge store of water in tanks, either underground or over the building,

called fire stockpiling tanks

• A particular pumping framework,

• A vast system of funnels finishing off with either hydrants or sprinklers

(almost all structures require both of these frameworks)

1.3 General Fire Fighting Equipment

Putting out fires frameworks and hardware change contingent upon the age,
size, utilize and kind of building development. A building may contain a few or
the majority of the accompanying highlights:

 Fire Extinguishers: a versatile gadget that releases a fly of water, froth, gas,
or other material to quench a fire all firefighting gear, including fire dousers.
 Fire Hose Reels: Fire hose reels are given to use by tenants as a 'first assault'
putting out fires measure, however, may, in a few occasions, additionally be
utilized by firefighters.
 Fire Hydrant Systems: A fire hydrant is a vertical steel pipe with an outlet,
near which two fire hoses are put away
 Automatic Sprinkler Systems: A sprinkler is a spout connected to a system
of funnels, and introduced just beneath the roof of a room.

There are many different types of firefighting equipment. Some of this

equipment can be used by anyone, while others must be operated by a member
of the fire brigade.

The 45 days internship will complete by following the flow of activities

which had been conducted over there. During this project first induction program
was there. An induction program is the process used within many organizations to
welcome new employees to the company and prepare them for their new role and
achieving objectives. It helps to motivate employee for giving his/ her dedication
in company’s work. As I work for 45 days in Indian Fire Protection Amravati,
they treated me as employee and then discussing all the important factors. As I
was unaware about Fire Fighting Systems, they taught daily 2-3 hrs about market
condition and telling about various type of risk. And after that they allocate
various site to me I started my field work in which I meet daily to new people at
Industrial Units, Petrol Pumps, Educational Institutions, Hospitals, Commercial &
Residential Infrastructure. And by asking various questions with respect to mutual
fund, data would be collected. And after this reporting back to Sameer sir, they
observe this data ,checking out problems happened and then they gives proper
solution to that particular problem and later on I call to customer who do not have
fire fighting system and ask for if they have requirement of fire fighting system,
fire extinguisher or any maintenance requirement.

4.1. Research Type

Exploratory Research

Explanation: Exploratory research is research conducted for a problem that has

not been studied more clearly, intended to establish priorities, develop operational
definitions and improve the final research design. The study was conducted by
Indian Fire Protection in Amravati City among Industrial units, Hospitals, Petrol
pumps, Commercial and Residential buildings and other Institutional buyers for
the first time regarding market review and comparative analysis for satisfying the
objectives given in research and also to make critical evaluation of market

4.3. Sampling

Further, the design that has been adopted for the study of the
given topic is CONVENIENCE SAMPLING.

Explanation: During the course of the study we visited a no. of to MIDC units,
Hospitals, Petrol Pumps & Construction project sites that were scattered all over
Amravati City (source list mentioned below). Apart from this we had no written
record of the number and names of the M.I.D.C units and construction projects
in the city. It was very difficult to tabulate a record of all the MIDC units,
Hospitals, Petrol Pumps & Construction project sites present in the city and then
carry out our study, in the short span of time that was allotted. As a result we
had to select MIDC units, Hospitals, Petrol Pumps & Construction project sites
according to our convenience. We went to the areas and surveyed M.I.D.C
units, Hospitals, Petrol Pumps and construction projects that could possibly be
approached.

4.4. Sample size

A total sample size is 101 M.I.D.C units and 25 construction sites 28 hospitals
and 24 petrol pumps 21 other institutions.

4.5. Tools and techniques for Data Collection

Tools and techniques for:

 Primary Data: The researchers collected primary data during the course
of research period with the help of the questionnaire that was designed
for the M.I.D.C units, Hospitals, Petrol Pumps and construction projects
to collect the information that was required to carry out the research.
 Secondary Data: Secondary data was collected from books, articles,
Internet.

4.6. Tools and techniques of Analysis

Simple statistical tools and techniques like average, ratios, pie charts, tables and
graphs are used to analyze the data.

Department of Business Administration & Management (SGBAU) Page 13

5. Limitations of the Study

While conduction this research study researchers had following limitations.

1) The study was conducted in 45 days that is not enough for such a vast
topic.

2) No proper data was available about the fire fighting system users in the
city.

3) There were a major number of MIDC units, petroleum pumps, healing

centers, Construction locales and different establishments who are required to
utilize fire security framework at their premises some were shut work in advance
is shut and furthermore, all units are not mindful in Amravati to complete the
exploration all the more productively.

4) As the nature of research was Analytical so it was difficult to cover each

and every institution.

5) Many MIDC units, petrol pumps, hospitals, Construction sites and other
institutions don’t Give Information about which fire system that they used
because of fear of breach of secrecy in business.

6) Some of them have asked for proper authorization before visiting

premises.

7) There is no transportation vehicle and not any allowance provided by

Indian Fire Protection for this survey.

8) Many times security didn’t allowed to enter in the premises we had to

convenes them regarding survey.

9) The survey was very exhaustive as the climate in summer is not very
helpful to visit each and every institutional unit.

10) In the instance of healing centers, the specialists wear occupied with
helping patients and another staff is likewise occupied at their work so we need
to deal with a legitimate time to visit every single start some we have visited
twice or thrice.

Department of Business Administration & Management (SGBAU) Page 14

6. SURVEY REPORT

In survey methodology, the survey of existing buyers of fire extinguisher and

firefighting system and other Institutional buyers who are not known with facts
of fire protection and safety are to be done with the help of a questionnaire.
During the course of study, the researchers had visited 106 M.I.D.C units and 25
construction sites 48 hospitals and petrol pumps 21 other institutions and
analyzed all major issue in case of fire protection & safety and analyzed how
industrial units and Builders are aware about maintaining fire safety system and
maintain their system up to date.

Their motive was to study the Potential Market Amravati City. They have
mentioned the problems, which they have found during the course of the study
and recommended various corrective measures for it.

This study also comprises the comparative analysis between Indian Fire
Protection and other competitive agency dealing in providing fire safety features
in M.I.D.C units, Hospitals, Petrol Pumps, commercial and residential units and
other institutions.

5.1. Survey plan

First the 45 days internship of which 10 days for getting aware of the concept of
fire extinguishers and fire fighting systems next 30 days was given out for
survey and last 5 days is to conclude the survey report.

First we had decided of questionnaire and finalized or questionnaire which

is required two filled from all the information from various respondents of
Institutions. The Institutions where categorized in five different categories

 Hospitals
 Petrol Pumps
 Industrial Units
 Building Projects
 Other Institutions which includes cinema theatres educational institutions
another public places.

Department of Business Administration & Management (SGBAU) Page 15

“A Study on Fire Safety System Pre-Purchase and Post-Purchase Behavior of Institutional Buyers”

As the survey started first I had visited the MIDC Industry units, to meet
all the respondents their and personal meet with the fire officer in charge their or
owner of that unit and ask them particular information mentioned in the
questionnaire and get the questionnaire filled .

After that we have visited hospitals to take an appointment for visiting

them because there are patients at hospital so can’t get our questioner filled in
one meet for this survey after getting an appointment we visit the particular
hospitals and get a questionnaire filled by asking for the information which is
mentioned in the questionnaire.

After that I visited petrol pumps getting information from the petrol
pumps is very easy as the owners are directly present at the of main offices of
petrol pump so that was not quite difficult task and we get the questionnaire
filled very easily in petrol pumps.

After that I chose to visit all the building all the work in advance building
locales and right now built destinations and flats and asked about the developer
of that building site and after that I visited them and get appropriate arrangement
to meet them after that I have by and by we visited every manufacturer and ask
the data said in the poll and get the survey legitimately filled and furthermore
made them mindful about flame security and wellbeing standards by
Maharashtra fire aversion and security acts and administers and the prerequisite
of NBC section 4 and furthermore made them mindful about land Regulation
and improvement act 2016 by this I made them mindful about which standards
are required by them to take after at their structures for flame security and
assurance against flame.

The task work is over till that yet promote I likewise had chosen to visit
other foundation, for example, government workplaces instructive organizations
film theaters shopping centers to acquire more data with respect to overview in
this study I have to meet in excess of 200 respondents.

7.2 SWOT ANALYSIS of INDIAN FIRE PROTECTION (an opinion of

Intern)

SWOT examination is a vital arranging strategy for assessing the Strengths,

Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats associated with a business firm. With the
assistance of SWOT Analysis, we can discover outside and inside variables which
might be positive or ominous for a specific organization. A SWOT examination
should first begin with characterizing a coveted goal. A SWOT investigation might
be fused into the key arranging model. In 45 days temporary position program at
Indian Fire Protection,
ection, I broke down after Strengths, Weakness, Opportunity, and
Threats. Distinguishing proof of SWOTs is basic on the grounds that require steps
could be taken out in the accomplishment of want destinations of the organization.

Department of Business Administration & Management (SGBAU) Page 19

“A Study on Fire Safety System Pre-Purchase and Post-Purchase Behavior of Institutional Buyers”

Strengths

 Fast Decision Making.

 Specialized in Fire Fighting Systems and Equipments.
 Govt. of Maharashtra issues registration to select to fire protection service
providers. This is because of the increase in misconduct and adjustment in
material done by Contractors. Indian Fire Protection is an A Grade service
provider.
 Indian fire protection is an only licensed agency operating in Amravati City
having license of Government of Maharashtra.
 Only Indian fire protection can see fire audit and other documentation which in
Amravati City.

Weakness

 The target market segment do not aware about that the Indian fire protection is
an only licensing agency having license of Government of Maharashtra
operating in Amravati.
 Being new in the market does not have much wide market coverage (reference
to point 3.3).

Opportunity

 Indian fire assurance can approach each new building site to have fire security
framework and hardware, likewise, Indian fire Protection can approach them
who don't have to put out fires wellbeing framework and at their premises.
Indian fire assurance just has authorized so Indian fire Protection has many
extensions to assemble advertised for them in Amravati City and places close
Amravati.
 All institutions which do not have fire safety system can be approached by
Indian fire protection. Especially as given in table 7.1.3 residential buildings,

Threats:

 There are 14 agencies operating in Maharashtra including Indian fire protection

so there lots of competition in the market.
 Being new in the market institutional buyers who require firefighting equipment
are not aware of Indian Fire Protection.

8. My Experiences during Internship with Indian Fire Protection

As the summer internship project has been started first I have been made
aware that what the fire and how the fire extinguisher and firefighting system
works. I have been made aware of each type of firefighting system type of fire
extinguisher and another firefighting system which are needed to be installed at
premises and how firefighting system actually works i.e. it eliminates the oxygen
component in fire due to which fire gets extinguish we have also had a live demo
of applying fire fighting system at client premises of Indian fire protection, as
there has been the new system get install they are required to provide demo
employees who are working there, we have been get visited to proper site to see
the demo of how Fire extinguisher fire hydrant fire alarm and fire sprinkler work
we also had been made aware of documentation like fire audit.

So after 45 days SIP, first 10 days were we have given a proper training
and made aware of every fact related to fire and firefighting systems types of fire
extinguisher. I had been told to do survey of Amravati City of which we have
been provided area of area buildings, Apartments, Petrol Pumps, Hospitals, and
Industrial Units under MIDC in Amravati. This survey research as the time span
of 45 days of which the 10 days has been already gone the remaining days where
35 of which last 5 days we have to sum up our survey and to have to make a
proper report and to give findings recommendations and to present conclusion of
the report so the proper time of 30 days we have been good for this survey as the
work has been started. I have been told that at least in one day we have to visit at
least four premises which are minimum show the result of 30 days is we have to

Department of Business Administration & Management (SGBAU) Page 21

“A Study on Fire Safety System Pre-Purchase and Post-Purchase Behavior of Institutional Buyers”

at least visit 120 premises in the overall survey but the but I have visited 200
which is more than the actual we had to visit. This was more than they were
expecting.

We day by day report at 6 p.m excessively Indian fire insurance and disclose to
them challenges we are looking in the server they offer answers for confront the
troubles our server has been begun at 10 a.m and it must end at 6 p.m between
these we visited premises to get the inquiry appropriately field and to gather all
the required data we have required to have for this examination.

Most recent five days we finished up the review report and inclinations of the
wire we have the general population pursue and the post buy conduct of the
institutional purchasers about flame security framework.

9. General observation about IFP during internship program:

Indian fire protection hereby introduces themselves as a leading Fire-

Fighting Company and Government of Maharashtra - Fire Licensee Agency as
Indian Fire Protection. IFP deals with all kinds of Fire-Fighting Systems
Installations. Most quick delivery, best quality of work and products and
prominent efficiency are some of their features on which clients can totally rely
on us. Customer safety and customer satisfaction are their top priorities. Indian
fire protection works as the Licensee Agency for Fire Hydrant & Sprinkler system
installation as well as for Fire Alarm and Detection System installation having
License number -MFS-LA/F-0551.

Overall operations of Indian fire protection is run by Sameer Ganjare sir

who is owner of Indian fire protection and other Sagar Waghamare head of
marketing and Pranav Deol sir head of operations department. Operations of
Indian fire protection are very speedy. They always try to achieve higher
efficiency and effectiveness performances at their operations.

10. First Hand Experience of Collecting Data

During this internship I work with Sameer sir he guides me how to carry on
survey procedure after that how to talk respondents and approach them for having
firefighting equipment. Most of the things I learn through observations and when
I was started meeting people personally I came to know why people run away
from this they are not aware with importance of this firefighting equipment that
these equipment can save life in danger in case of any uncertain event of fire. So
where all I meet to people I ask them about their opinions and taught them how
important is having firefighting equipment at their premises. I was collecting data
from various institutional buyers. I bring requirements for Indian Fire Protection.
I follow the 4 ways for collecting data.

1) Approach to Institutional Buyers visiting their premises personally.

2) Asking Questions through Questionnaire.

3) Visit the Places with the Reference of Our Trainee (Sameer sir)

During my fieldwork, I met to 45 people and try to make them aware

about the importance of this firefighting equipment and convince them for
firefighting equipment. Data collection is not that much hard but responses of
people sometimes too much horrible. I ask them for particular information in the
questionnaire by which I get data for analysis. When I went to collect data from
Institutional Buyers, some people would say that any of such firefighting
equipment but I try to make them realize how the importance of this firefighting
equipment that this equipment can save a life in danger in case of an uncertain
event of a fire.

11. Findings

After close study of the present market situation prevailing in the areas assigned
the researchers, following are the observations.

1. Major institutional buyer’s uses fire extinguisher but of which very few
maintain renew it refilling after expiry. (from 7.1.2, 7.1.3 & 7.1.5)
2. Indian fire protection does not have major focus on fire extinguisher
cylinders and refilling.(from 3.3)
3. Indian fire protection has lots of scope in the market being the only
licensing agency but it has to reach to the consumer and make them aware about
its business. (from 3.3)
4. Institutional purchasers don't have a fundamental spotlight on keeping up
the fire protection framework except if it is obligatory.
5. Sample size can only show behavioral aspect of institutional buyers within
an Amravati city. (from 7.1.1)
6. Some Builders and Industry unit owners are not aware much about
maintaining fire safety system. (as evaluated in survey)
7. Hydrant fire fighting system involves heavy amount of investment so this
system is mostly avoided and fire extinguisher cylinders are used. (from 7.1.4)
8. Some institutional buyer’s do not feel necessary to install Fire fighting
system or use any equipment at their premises. (from 7.1.2 & 7.1.3)
9. Institutional buyers are not aware of rules and norms regarding fire
protection and safety.
10. Some institutional buyers do not share their information regarding fire and
safety norms and some really interested in it and wants to know about it.

12. Recommendations and Suggestions

 Needs to build brand image Indian fire protection so that in can be only market
leader, Also Indian Fire Protection should convert itself in a private company
form of organisation.
 There are many institutions where there is no putting out fires framework is
utilized Indian Fire Protection should approach them.
 A growth rate of an organization is expanding quickly as an organization is
expanding its extent of work, Indian fire Protection ought to likewise build its
emphasis on fire extinguisher cylinder distribution and it's refilling.
 Indian Fire Protection is only licensing agency operating in Amravati but not
builders or any other targeted group of consumer are aware of it, therefore they
should indulge in Advertising so that everyone should know about Indian Fire
Protection.
 Indian Fire Protection must start promoting their products with the help of local
media.
 Indian Fire Protection should also sponsor events and seminar which are
organized in MIDC area and other institutional buyers.
 Indian Fire Protection should also organize such events which shall provide
information about fire safety systems and its benefits how these are life saving
equipment.
 Indian Fire Protection should also increase its staff so that will improve
efficiency and work effectiveness.
 Indian Fire Protection should try to rise funds from public deposit and loans.

As every business funda says “to be best u need to be best at everything” Indian
Fire Protection is a service providing firm, needs to carry out its operation more
efficiently and effectively no opportunity should forgone. Indian fire protection
needs to increase its workforce so that it shall be able to cover all scopes and
upcoming opportunities.

13. Conclusions

To summarize, the Summer Internship Program was a great learning

experience for me as I got to learn a lot not just from the academic point of view
but from the corporate point of view as well. This internship taught me a lot of
things like patience, professionalism, approaching others, tackling various
situations etc.

After conducting the survey on 200 Respondents, I found that there is a

bigger market for fire Protection and safety in Amravati city.

It was also concluded that Indian fire protection is the first preference if it
made aware the entire targeted consumer about them being a only licensing
agency in Amravati which can resolve every query about fire protection and
safety.
Also it needs to focus on advertising because market is not mainly aware
about Indian fire protection being a only licensing agency in Amravati. As
Indian Fire Protection have many opportunity in Market for Expansion and
growth.
