Reading Journal

You will complete a reading journal for your reading of ​Rita

Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption. ​To do this,
choose four of the literary elements from the following list:
Characterization Setting
Conflict Theme
Foreshadowing Symbolism
Irony

As you read, pull quotes from the text that apply to the
literary elements you have chosen. For each quote, you
should have a few sentences that explain or analyze the
quote and how it illustrates the literary element. Reserve
four pages in your notebook for this, one page for each
literary element. Be sure to write down page #’s for your
quotes. You should pull at least one quote per literary
element for each assigned section of the text.
