Material and Energy Balances - Web

course

COURSE OUTLINE

T o teach students fundamental knowledge of chemical engineering and

application of this knowledge in the solving of material and energy balances of
NPTEL
chemical processes. http://nptel.iitm.ac.in
The course will cover concepts ranging from basics such as units and
dimensions, stiochiometry to the simultaneous application of material and
energy balances with and without occurrence of chemical reaction. Chemical
Behaviour of ideal gases including the procedures for estimation of vapour Engineering
pressure and heats of vaporization will be extensively covered.

Further humidity and saturation along with the use of humidity chart and steam
tables will be covered in the course.
Pre-requisites:
Phase and Chemical reaction equilibrium will be introduced.
N.A.
A s supplementary material degree of freedom analysis and the use of
spreadsheet software (EXCEL) for process calculations will also be taught.
