Overview

The modeling and simulation of low frequency AC transmission (LFAC) system for connecting
offshore wind farm to grid station through Cycloconverter is shown in figure 1.the main parts is
wind farm, step up transformer, submarine power cable ,three phase Cycloconverter and SIX
BUS GIRD STATION. The building block of wind farm is induction generator. A capacitor
bank must be connected in parallel to each induction generator output terminal to supply reactive
power to induction generator. Many induction generator are connected in parallel to forming
wind farm.

A low frequency AC is induced in induction generator which is step up to 576(phase to phase) in

this case by mean of internal wind farm transformer .The internal transformer is not shown in
figure 1. Now this voltage is again step up by external transformer to high value or grid station
operated in this case we take it 2500 voltage is shown in figure1.The output of the transformer is
connected to submarine power cable length is 100km.

These submarine power cables is connected to cycloconverter which is directly connected to bus
#4 .The frequency converter change the frequency 50/3 to grid connected other two generator
frequency 16.3*3=50Hz. Now the wind farm is completely synchronized with grid station and
ready for use not the whole installation require complex protection scheme for example (relay,
circuit breaker, fuses. and sensing device) which is not shown in simulation.

The generator 1 &2 is connected to bus 1 and bus 5 ,output voltage is taken 25000.the outgoing
feeder 1,2,3 is connected to bus 2.3,6. and the load is connected to feeder 3.at bus 4 the scope
result is shown in figure 2.

The active and reactive power of wind farm output is shown in figure3 & 4.The transient is
clearly shown. .

In normal operation the three phase voltage on transmission line is shown in figure 5 .Now we
introduce the fault to the transmission line and see the behavior of transmission voltage and
current to the fallowing different type of fault.
