Introduction: Parents expect to have a healthy child, both physically and mentally, but the presence

of children with special needs in the family will be a stressor for each family member because it can
be a burden for the family both mentally and materially. Stress experienced by parents with children
with special needs affect the development of children. Objective: To know the classification of
children with tunagrahita in SLB Yayasan Bahagia Tasikmalaya and to know the level of stress of
parents with children with special needs (tunagrahita) in SLB Yayasan Bahagia Tasikmalaya. Research
Method: This research design is quantitative descriptive type with accidental sampling technique.
The sample in this research are 30 parents of students / teachers tunagrahita in SLB Yayasan Bahagia
Tasikmalaya. Data collection techniques used observation tools and questionnaires DASS 42.

Result of research: The researcher got the result that the child was light tunagrahita 20 people
(66.7%) while the light tunagrahita children 10 people (33.3%) and no children tunagrahita weight
(0%). Levels of stress of the parents that researchers get, ie mild stress 29 people (96.7%), moderate
stress 1 person (3.3%) and no major stress (0%) Conclusion: Researchers can conclude that the child
is more tunagrahita tunagrahita children mild and stress levels experienced by parents are more
mild stress levels than moderate stress levels.

materially. The parents who experienced stressed of the children with special needs will
affect to the development of children. Aims: To know the classification of (tunagrahita)
children in SLB Yayasan Bahagia Tasikmalaya, and to know the level of stress parents who
have the children with special needs (tunagrahita) in SLB Yayasan Bahagia Tasikmalaya.

parents stress level; mild stress 29 people (96.7%), moderate stress 1 person (3.3%) and there
is no serious stress (0%). Conclusion: Researcher can conclude that the tunagrahita child in
the middle position than mild tunagrahita children, and the parents stress level are milder
than moderate stress levels.
