Rhythmic Skills  

; Introductory lesson on choreography. Students will go on to creating their own 


routines.

P.E.M.C.S.6.1.; Students demonstrate the motor skills and movement patterns needed 
to perform a variety of physical activities.  

 

 

Objective 
P.E.M.C.S.6.1.8; Develop, refine, and demonstrate routines to music.

1. Pre-selected music  
2. Speaker

Activity 
1. Introduction 
a. Warm-Up  
i. TTW start some stretches that correlate with the dance moves.  
1. Arms across 
2. Arm to opposite toe touches  
3. Lunges 
b. TTW say something along these lines, “Students today we are going to be 
starting our rhythm unit by doing Zumba! We are practicing zumba in order 
for you all to gain a sense on how to choreograph dances to music. Later 
on in this unit you all will be grouping up, choreographing, performing, and 
teaching your own dances! How exciting! Alright, does everyone feel 
warmed up and ready to go?”  
2. Activity  
a. TTW teach a simple zumba dance for the students to follow along with.  
i. Song: Limbo by Daddy Yankee  
1. Series of easy dance moves - repetitive  
3. Cool Down 

 

 
a. Stretching 
i. Calf stretch 
ii. Good-mornings  
iii. Inhalations  
b. Reflection 
i. TTW ask if students understand the concept of matching 
movements to music (choreography) 
ii. TSW share their thoughts on the experience  
iii. TTW have students split up into groups in preparation for next P.E. 
class
