Dear Bates Families,

Hello and welcome back for the 2018-2019 school year! My name is Ms. Robyn Hubbard, and I
am absolutely thrilled to be your new fourth grade math teacher this upcoming year. I am
happy to be introducing our new Eureka Math curriculum and new CHAMPS management
system to your students this year. Both of these programs allow for us all to collaborate,
explore, and learn together in new and innovative ways. I look forward to working with you and
your students to make this the best school year yet.

In addition to utilizing Eureka Math during class instruction time, I will be incorporating other
math resources to supplement your student’s instruction. We will be using AFFIRM (Eureka
Math’s online component) to complete some assignments, homework, and assessments. I will
also be using Prodigy Math. Prodigy is a free math program that allows students to “play” and
“battle” against one another by answering math questions. There is a paid option for Prodigy,
however it is not a requirement. Lastly, I will be using Class Dojo as my primary class
management and communication tool. Class Dojo allows me to send you text/app messages,
pictures, and alerts about me, the school, or your student.

In order to promote academic success and a good classroom-learning environment, this year all
students will be expected to abide by a few main classroom rules. Our rules will be decided
upon as a class so that the student’s take pride and ownership in them. Therefore, I would like
you to please take some time with your student to really think and discuss your expectations of
them as a student, and the expectations they have for themselves when they walk into our
classroom each day. This way, we will all have clear and high expectations of each other so that
we can all hold ourselves accountable.

Lastly, I want to establish a warm and loving community. If you have a moment, I would love if
you could please tell me anything you think I should know about your student as it relates to
their success and capabilities. How can I, their teacher, best meet their needs; what motivates
your student; or what are you looking forward to seeing your child do this year? If you could
answer these questions for me, I would love to get an understanding of your family and
students. Please send this with student on the first day if you can! I appreciate it!

Thank you,

Ms. Hubbard

CURRICULUM
Eureka Math by Great Minds
iReady

HOMEWORK
Homework is an opportunity for students to practice and review skills taught in class.
Homework will be given regularly. Eureka Math assignments will include a Homework Helper
worksheet/resource to help both you and your student. Most homework assignments will be
due to be checked the following day unless otherwise noted. Please expect for homework
assignments to count as a grade.

GRADING
Grades will be updated weekly and may be viewed using the Parent Portal system. Please be
sure to review any assignments your student receives for any comments. Please keep any
assignments for future reference or questions. Graded assignments will follow the following
scale:

90%-100% A
80%-89% B
70%-79% C
60%-69% D
59%-0% F

LATE WORK
Late work will NOT BE ACCEPTED unless the student was absent. Absent work must be returned
within 3 days of the students return to school. Grades are based on performance and not
natural ability. If an assignment is not turned in, it counts as a zero in the grade book. This will
greatly affect your student’s grades. Please encourage your student to keep up with the work
on a daily basis. Emergencies do happen, we are all human and I am willing to be flexible with
enough notice or under extreme circumstances. Please contact me so that we can devise a plan
that is best for your student.

EXPECTATIONS
It is my expectation that students will:
 Come to school on time (by 8:30am)
 Be prepared with appropriate uniform and supplies
 Be responsive and respectful to everyone in the room
 Complete and label all assignments their name, date, assignment name, homeroom
name and turn them in to the appropriate subject tray in the room

BEHAVIOR
As stated before, I will use ClassDojo as my primary source of communication. It is also a great
tool to monitor social skills such as participation, teamwork, and respect. It is a simple free
mobile app for iOS and Android and can be used from a computer. Please visit the website
(www.classdojo.com) and watch the informational video. I will be sending home a sign up form
in the next few days.
