Create In Me A Clean Heart

from a devotional by Philip Garber with intro by Frank Klin

This stream of Scriptures comes from a devotional given by Philip Garber at the
Feast of Tabernacles. It fits right in with studies in the Word we’ve presented on
how to have a victorious life when there’s a battle waging for control of our heart and
mind. What I’ve done personally is create a thread in my Bible that links each verse,
like the ribband of blue spoken of in Numbers 15:38.

There are precious promises to claim. Pray the promises. Put your name
personally in each promise as you read or pray them. May these verses be an
encouragement and practical guide in your personal walk with our Saviour.

First we have to be honest with ourselves and our Redeemer about the true
condition of our heart. It is only then that we can come to true repentance and turn
our hearts to Jesus for the outpouring of His Spirit and His salvation.

“Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of
God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.” -
(Romans 8:7-8)

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know
it?” - (Jeremiah 17:9)

“And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and every
imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” - (Genesis 6:5)

“He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be
delivered.” - (Proverbs 28:26)

“[R]emember all the commandments of the Lord, and do them; and . . . seek not
after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring: that ye
may remember, and do all My commandments, and be holy unto your God.” -
(Numbers 15:39-40)

“Nevertheless they did flatter Him with their mouth, and they lied unto Him with
their tongues. For their heart was not right with Him, neither were they stedfast in His
covenant.” - (Psalms 78:36-37)

“O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear Me, and keep all
My commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for
ever!” - (Deuteronomy 5:29)

“And thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee these forty
years in the wilderness, to humble thee, to prove thee, to know what was in thine
heart, whether thou wouldest keep His commandments, or no.” - (Deuteronomy 8:2)

1
“Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God, in not keeping His
commandments, and His judgments, and His statutes, which I command thee this
day: lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt
therein; and thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is
multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied; then thine heart be lifted up, and thou
forget the Lord thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the
house of bondage; Who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein
were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water; who
brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint; Who fed thee in the wilderness with
manna, which thy fathers knew not, that He might humble thee, and that He might
prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end; and thou say in thine heart, My power
and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth. But thou shalt remember the
Lord thy God: for it is He that giveth thee power to get wealth, that He may establish
His covenant which He sware unto thy fathers, as this day.” - (Deuteronomy 8:11-18)

“Now therefore put away the strange gods which are among you, and incline your
heart unto the Lord God of Israel.” - (Joshua 24:23)

“Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turn ye to Me with all your heart, and with
fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: and rend your heart, and not your
garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for He is gracious and merciful, slow to
anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth Him of the evil.” - (Joel 2:12-13)

“My son, give Me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe My ways.” - (Proverbs
23:26)

“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: and see
if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” - (Psalms
139:24)

“O Lord, Thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting
and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my
path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word
in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, Thou knowest it altogether.” - (Psalms 139:1-4)

“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me
not away from Thy Presence; and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me.” - (Psalms
51:10-11)

“And I will give them an heart to know Me, that I am the Lord: and they shall be
My people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto Me with their whole
heart.” - (Jeremiah 24:7)

“And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new Spirit within you; and I will
take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh: that they
may walk in My statutes, and keep Mine ordinances, and do them: and they shall be
My people, and I will be their God.” - (Ezekiel 11:19-20)

2
“Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your
filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you,
and a new Spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your
flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put My Spirit within you, and
cause you to walk in My statutes, and ye shall keep My judgments, and do them.
And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be My people,
and I will be your God.” - (Ezekiel 36:25-28)

“And the Lord thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to
love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.”
- (Deuteronomy 30:6)

“And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy
Ghost, even as unto us; and put no difference between us and them, purifying their
hearts by faith. - (Acts 15:8-9)

“Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” - (Matthew 5:8)

“Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will
of God from the heart;” - (Ephesians 6:6)

“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts
sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.” -
(Hebrews 10:22)

“Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts
thereof.” - (Romans 6:12)

“For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of whom
the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according
to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner
man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and
grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and
length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth
knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto Him that is
able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the
power that worketh in us, unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout
all ages, world without end. Amen.” - (Ephesians 3:14-21)

“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in
one body; and be ye thankful.” - (Colossians 3:15)

“All that the Father giveth Me shall come to Me; and him that cometh to Me I will
in no wise cast out.” - (John 6:37)

“In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any
man thirst, let him come unto Me, and drink. He that believeth on Me, as the
scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. But this spake He

of the Spirit, which they that believe on Him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was
not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)” - (John 7:37-39)

“Come unto Me, all that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take
My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall
find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” - (Matthew
11:28-30)

“And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is
with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God
Himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from
their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall
there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And He that sat
upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And He said unto me, Write: for
these words are true and faithful. And He said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and
Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain
of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his
God, and he shall be My son.” - (Revelation 21:3-7)

“And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And
let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.” -
(Revelation 22:17)

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear My voice, and open the
door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me. To him that
overcometh will I grant to sit with Me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am
set down with My Father in His throne.” - (Revelation 3:20-21)
