PHYSICS PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT SCORING GUIDE

TOPIC: HOOKE’S LAW

INFERENCE The extension of a spring depends on the force applied C1 P1 P1

The extension of a spring increases as the force applied

HYPOTHESIS C1 P1 P2
increases

To investigate the relationship between the extension of spring

AIM C1 P1 P3
and force applied

Manipulated: force applied, N

VARIABLE Responding: extension of spring, cm C1 P1 P4

Constant: Type of spring

APPARATUS & Metre rule, retort stand and clamp, G-clamp, steel spring and
C1 P2 P1
MATERIAL slotted weights, pin

ARRANGEMENT
C1 P2 P2
OF APPARATUS

1. The apparatus was set up as shown in the figure above.

2. The initial position of the pin when no weight was attached to
the spring was marked on the metre rule.
3. A slotted weight of 50 g was attached to the end of the spring
PROCEDURE and the new position of the pin was compared to its initial C1 P2 P3
position.
4. The extension of the spring was measured and recorded.
5. The procedure was repeated with slotted weights 100g, 150g,
200g, 250g and 300g
