Minister of Human Resource Development directs

Navodaya Vidyalayas to go solar


Minister of Human Resource Development has directed the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS)
to adopt solar energy. Addressing the 35th meeting of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) in
New Delhi, the minister asked the government-run samiti to take guidance of the Ministry of
Power to speed up the process.

The ministry of new and renewable energy has redefined quality norms for photovoltaic (PV)
cells and panels in order to contain cheap products from hampering the National Solar Mission.

According to the renewable energy ministry's Solar Photovoltaics, Systems, Devices and
Components Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2017, the government
will allow the of sale solar equipment and components only if they are registered and approved
by the Bureau of Indian Standards – a move that industry executives say can help domestic
manufacturers and discourage imports of inferior Chinese gear.

Vivekananda Centre gets solar plants

Tamil Nadu has been able to harness 40% of its energy requirement from renewable energy
and with breakthrough technology expected in a few years in energy storage, it would not be
hard to absorb more green power.

Inaugurating a solar plant at the Vivekananda Cultural Centre on Kamarajar Salai, Managing
Director of Tangedco said that in the next two years, the State would be adding more than 3,000
mega watt (MW) of renewable energy through solar and wind plants
