1. Immunofluorescent staining

A. Title of article: Immunofluorescent localization of a serine protease in rat small intestine

B. Name of the journal: Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences
C. Findings: The objective of this study is to localize by immunofluorescence, an intracellular
serine protease, which is believed to initiate the degradation of several intracellular pyridoxal
phosphate-dependent enzyme in atypical mast cells of lamina propia and in intraepithelial cells
of rat small intestine. The result is that immunofluorescent localization of GSP in small intestine
fixed in Carnoy's fluid indicated that the protease was located in cells scattered throughout the
lamina propria. The sample was taken from rat small intestine.

A. Title of article: Huntingtin Is a Cytoplasmic Protein Associated with Vesicles in Human and
Rat Brain Neurons
B. Name of the journal: Cell Press
C. Findings: The objective of this study is to generate antisera against 3 separate regions of
huntingtin and identify a single high molecular weight protein of 320 kDa on immunoblots of
human neuroblastoma and in rat cortex synaptosomes. The findings of the study suggests that the
immunohistochemistry in human and rat brain revealed widespread cytoplasmic labeling of
huntingtin within neurons, particularly cell bodies and dendrites, rather than the more selective
pattern of axon terminal labeling characteristic of many vesicle-associated proteins. The sample
was taken from rat cell brain neurons.
3. Immunohistochemistry

A. Title of article: lmmunohistochemical Localization of Choline Acetyltransferase During

Development and in Chats Mutants of Drosophila melanogaster
B. Name of the journal: The Journal of Neuroscience
C. Findings: The objectives of this study is to determine the distribution of choline
acetyltransferase (CAT) in the nervous system of Drosophila melanogaster by indirect
immunohistochemical procedures using a monoclonal antibody specific to the enzyme and to
determine the temperature of 2 temperature-sesitive CAT mutants, Cha’“’ and Charsz. The
results of the study imply a wide distribution of cholinergic neurons in the CNS of Drosophila
and exhibits reduced CAT activity at permissive temperature, 16”C, which eventually falls to
undetectable levels after incubation at nonpermissive temperature, 30°C..The sample was taken
from the nervous system of Dorsophila melanogaster.

A. Title of article: Zebrafish mutations affecting retinotectal axon pathfinding

B. Name of the journal: Development
C. Findings: The objective of this study is to isolate mutants in the zebrafish, Danio rerio that
have defects in axonal connectivity between retina and tectum. The result of the study is that
they found 82 mutations representing 13 complementation groups and 6 single allele loci that
have defects in retinal ganglion cell axon pathfinding to the tectum and that the pathfinding
genes fall into five classes based on the location of pathfinding errors between eye and tectum.
The sample was taken from the retinal ganglion cells of zebrafish Danio rerio.
