TITLE: “Family function and its relationship with the self-esteem of the Psychopedagogy

Program of the Central University of Ecuador, located in Quito city, during the academic period

2018 - 2018.”

ABSTRACT

The research objective is to determine the relationship between family functioning and self-

esteem levels in a population conform of 175 students of the Psychopedagogy Program of the

Central University of Ecuador, during the academic period 2018 - 2018, this is a research with

qualitative, field and correlational approach, sustained on the central guidelines of the David

Olson's theories of cohesion and adaptability and Lucy Reidl's work about levels of self-esteem,

who provided the necessary instruments to measure this study’s variables and the bibliography

needed to complete it. The descriptive obtained results per variable indicate: that in the first

one, most of students show a familiar functioning level within the Average Range; whereas in

the second one, is make evident a large students number with High Degree of self-esteem,

nevertheless, it is possible identify that the percentage of Students part of the group of Low

self-esteem degree is represented mostly by women. On the other hand, by means of the

statistical calculation of the chi-square test it is manifested a significant relationship between

family functioning and levels of self-esteem with 0,000 asymptotic significance.
