By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:
- identify and name the rooms of a house;
- recognize pieces of furniture;
- answer simple questions;
- follow instructions.
Teaching materials: blackboard, flashcards, worksheets, wallposters, reward
stickers, OHP.
Teaching techniques: conversation, game, explanation, observation.
1. Warm-up
Aim: to cheer up the Ss and to prepare them for the lesson
Procedure: T enters the room, greets the students and the Ss greet the T. T asks
questions: How are you today? Are you ready for the lesson? Ss answer the
questions.
Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-T.

2. Reinforcing and checking the previous knowledge
Aim: to practice the members of the family;
Procedure: T shows Ss family cards and asks them questions about who the
members are.
e.g. T: “Who is he?”
Ss: “grandfather”
Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-T.

3. Presentation
Aim: to introduce the topic/ to set the context;
Procedure: T asks the students: Where does a family live? Ss will answer: In a
house. T tells the Ss that they are going to learn which are the rooms of a house.
After that the T asks the Ss to name a room they know. The Ss will name in
Romanian some of the rooms they know. T will concentrate on four rooms:
kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom. T will show to the Ss the flashcards
with each room, she will give the English term, Ss will repeat it in chorus and
individual.

4. Practice (Touch the picture)
Aims: - to identify the rooms of a house
- to pronounce correctly the words
Procedure: T shows 4 wallposters illustrating each one of the rooms of a house
(kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom). T will ask the students to stay in the
middle of the classroom. First, T goes to one of the wallposters and choruses that
room 2 or 3 times. Then she is going to name a room of the house and everyone
has to race to touch it on the poster and tell the name of the room. The first
person to touch it is the winner. The winners will receive a sticker.

5. Production (Identify pieces of furniture)
Procedure: T asks Ss to look for images of pieces of furniture hidden in the
classroom. Ss are then asked to bring the images to T. T counts the images with
the help of Ss. T asks Ss to name the proper room for each of the pieces of
furniture and then invites Ss to stick each image in the right place. T asks about
the place of each item and Ss answer. “Where is the…?/ In the…”.

6. Feedback
Procedure: T asks Ss to watch the Home Sweet Home Song. Ss pay attention to
the video. When it finishes, T asks Ss to say the name of rooms mentioned in the
video. They are also asked questions using words from the song: ”Where is the
sofa I lie on?”; ”Where does mommy cook?”; “Where do I brush my teeth?”;
“Where do I go to sleep?”. T gives feedback.

7. Homework and assessment

Procedure: Each student will receive a handout containing a image of a house.


The Ss will colour each of the rooms in the colour that the teacher indicates.
T congratulates the Ss for their work, gives them stickers.
