SikaTop® 122
2-part, ready-mixed repair mortar

Product SikaTop 122 is a two-pack, ready mixed mortar based on cement modified with
Description emulsified synthetic polymers and silica fume, containing selected aggregates,
synthetic microfibres making up a widespread armoring, plus special admixtures.
Uses
SikaTop 122 affords making very easily repairs perfectly adhering to the substrate
and featuring excellent strength - and waterproof properties.
Main areas of application include:
n Localized reconstruction of the rod coating layer
n Making of coves, build up layers for rounding edges or corners
n Filling of stiff joints
n Grouting of non-moving cracks
Characteristics / n Packing comprises two fully-prebatched packs, hence no way to make of
Advantages errors when making and placing mortar
n Lower modulus of elasticity compared with conventional concrete
n Optimum thixotropy due to the special synthetic fibre reinforcement, affording
application - even overhead - with no need for fixed formworks
n Excellent adhesion on almost all substrate, such as concrete, mortar, bricks,
stone, iron, etc.
n High strength for extension, flexural and compressive strengths achieved upon
short curing time
n High waterproofness and carbon dioxide-tightness
n High vapor passage permeability
n Limiting shrinkage cracking
n Resistance to minor chemical attack, frost-and-than cycles and to defrosting
salts
n Open time equal to a standard mortar cement

Application Details
Screed / Mortar / Render:
2
~ 2.2 kg/m per thickness mm

This figure is theoretical and does not include for any additional
material required due to surface porosity, surface profile,
variations in level or wastage, etc.
Substrate Quality The concrete substrate must be sound and of sufficient compressive strength
2 2
(minimum 25 N/mm ) with a minimum pull off strength of 1.0 N/mm .
The substrate must be damp but free of standing water and free of all contaminants
such as oil, grease, coatings and surface treatments, etc.
Substrate Preparation Concrete substrates must be prepared mechanically using abrasive blast cleaning or
high pressure water jetting equipment to remove cement laitance, especially oil or
wax containing layers and achieve an open textured surface.
Weak concrete must be removed and surface defects such as blow holes and voids
must be fully exposed.
Repairs to the substrate, filling of blowholes/voids and surface levelling must be
® ® ®
carried out using appropriate products fr om the Sikafloor , SikaDur and Sikagard
range of materials.
High spots can be removed by grinding.
All dust, loose and friable material must be completely removed from all surfaces
before application of the product, preferably by brush and/or vacuum.

Application
Conditions /
Limitations
Substrate Temperature +8°C min. / +30°C max.
Ambient Temperature +8°C min. / +30°C max.

Application
Instructions
Application Method / Mortar preparation
Tools
Gradually pour B component (powder) into A component (l iquid) into a suitable
container, thoroughly mixing over 3-4 minutes by dipping mixer or propeller mounted
onto low r.p.m. (500/min) drill. As an alternative, mortar mills or small rotary drum
mixers can be used. Abstain from adding water or other ingredie nts; each pack must
be used in full, avoid mixing only parts of pack, since this might involve faulty particle
size distribution of aggregates contained in the powder component.
Mortar application
SikaTop 122 shall be directly applied by trowel, exerting t horough pressure and
compaction onto the substrate. When making eges, previous positioning a plank on
one side proves helpful. Minimum layer to be placed shall be 5 mm at least, whereas
maximum thickness of directly placeable single layer is 20 mm; higher thickness is to
be build in several subsequent layers.
A satisfactory surface finish is achieved by wooden or plastic palsterer’s float, to be
passed as soon as mortar starts to harden-up; a perfectly smooth surface can be
achieved by subsequent rendering to be carried out with SikaTop 121 rendering
mortar (see applicable Technical Data Sheet).
Cleaning of Tools Clean all tools and application equipment with water immediately after use. Hardened
/ cured material can only be mechanically removed.
Pot life Approximately 30 minutes (+20°C max, R.H.: 65%)

Notes on Application / Precautions for drying-up
Limitations
Immediately after application, surface of SikaTop 122 mortar must be kept moist over
several hours thereafter, in order to prevent cracks - due to immediate evaporation of
the mixing water under the action of sun and wind - from developing. This protection
can also be achieved by means of plastic sheets or dampened jute bags, or
dampening with atomized water, or by an evaporation - preventing treatment such as
sprayed Antisol (only practicable if no subsequent treatments are to be carried out).
Application temperature
SikaTop 122 should not be applied when environmental -, product- and substrate
temperature is below +8°C and over +30°C. Besides, it s hould not be used under full
sun exposure or in the presence of strong wind.
Substrate settling
Sika Top 122’s elastic modulus is lesser than conventional concrete. Therefore,
substrate must be statically suitable, and fitted with regular expansion joints capable
taking up the expected structural displacements.
Protection from rain
SikaTop 122 shall be protected from rain until at least 6 hours from application.
