Important Additional Information about some Academic Accommodations

1. Recording / Taping Lectures – students who have this accommodation use their recordings for
their own personal study purposes. They are not supposed to share their recordings with other students
or publish them publicly in any way. The recordings are to be destroyed at the end of the term when the
course ends.

2. Extensions for Assignments – students should discuss their need for an extension for an
assignment in advance of the deadline. There is no specific formula for granting extensions but you can
take into consideration what the student says they need, the format of your course, and the timing
within the semester. Extensions that go beyond the last day of the current term will likely require an
academic concession that is approved by the Dean’s office. DRC can help students with academic
concession requests if the request is related to their documented disability or medical condition.

3. Reduced Course Load – this procedural accommodation allows students who are unable to carry a
full time course load for disability or medical reasons to be eligible for the same kinds of considerations
that students with a full time course load receive from the university. For example, eligibility for
workstudy programs, on-campus housing, Go Global/Exchange programs, Awards and Scholarships.
This accommodation does not mean modified course content.

If you have any questions about your students’ accommodations please contact the DRC advisor directly. We
are happy to help you understand what the accommodation might mean with regard to a particular assignment,
evaluative method, or learning outcome in your course.
