Name of School : DAPA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

Address : DAPA, SURIGAO DEL NORTE

Teacher : JOAN MARIE C. PELIAS
Subject : SCIENCE 8
Section : 8 - Jenner/8 – Hooke
Time Schedule : 12:00 – 12:50 PM / 12:50 – 1:40 PM
Date : June 25-29, 2018
Time Frame : 5 days

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
 define what is work and energy;
 relate the concept of work and energy;
 calculate the work being done;
 construct a toy that demonstrates how a rubber band ‘stores’ energy.

II. Subject Matter:

 Lesson: Work and Energy
 References: Grade 8 LM, TG, Science book
 Materials: Visual aids, Activity Sheets

III. Lesson Development:

A. Preparation

Prayer
Attendance

B. Motivation
Art of Questioning

What is Work?
What comes to your mind when you hear the word ‘work’? When people ask,
“What is your work?” They refer to a job or employment. When people say,
“I’ll meet you after work.” They refer to the part of a day devoted to an occupation or undertaking. When your
teacher asks,
“Have you done your homework?” They refer to the task or activity needed to be accomplished.
C. Activity

The students will perform …

Activity 1
Activity 2
Activity 3

D. Analysis

Activity 1
1. A girl is pulling her toy car.
Yes, the situation is an example of work. The work is done by the girl on the cart. The force exerted by the girl in pulling the
toy car is in the same direction as the distance covered when the force is applied.

2. A man is lifting a box to be placed on a table.

Yes, the situation is an example of work. The work is done by the man on the box. The force exerted by the man is upward and
the box is displaced upward.

3. A girl carrying a bag walks down the street.

No, the situation is not an example of work. There is force (the shoulder pushes up the bag) and there is displacement (the bag
is moved horizontally). However, the line of action of the force and the displacement are not parallel but perpendicular. The
distance covered is not along the direction of the applied force.

4. A mango fruit falling from the branch

Yes, the situation is an example of work. The work is done by the force of gravity on the mango. In this case, the mango loses
energy as you will find out in the discussion of potential energy.
Activity 2
Q1. It rolls.
Q2. Potential energy
Q3. Kinetic energy
Q4. Potential to kinetic energy

Activity 3

Q9. Each member performed different amounts of work except for Bella and Elijah who performed the same amount of work
because they weigh the same.

Q10. Power output is determined by the amount of work done or energy expended and the time taken to do the work

IV. ABSTRACTION
Work is a Method of Transferring Energy
V. APPLICATION

Suppose a woman is pushing a grocery cart with a 500 Newton force along the 7 meters aisle, how much work is done
in pushing the cart from one end of the aisle to the other?

VI. Evaluation

Summative Test

VII. ASSIGNMENT

What Potential Energy?

What is Kinetic Energy?

Remarks:

 June 29, 2018 – 1st HRPTA Meeeting.

 The objectives was all carried.
