HOWTO change the Materials Type of a material

master
In some cases it is possible to change the Material Type of a Material Master.

Prerequisites:

 Configuration of both material types must be similar (see transaction OMS2 - Material Type
configuration)
 There should be no open PO's against this material
 There should be no valuated stock against this material
 There should be no open line items against vendors for this material (see transaction FBL1N -
Vendor Line Item display)
 Material code should be in the number range of new material type

Material Type can be changed using transaction MMAM

Menu: Logistics > Material Management > Material Master > Material > Change Material Type

T-Code: MMAM
Follow below steps to change Material Type of a Material

1. Go to T-Code MMAM of IMG path Material is Logistics -> Material Management -> Material
Master -> Material -> Change Material Type
2. Provide material number for which you wants to change Material Type.
3. Press enter, you will see existing material type below.
4. Press execute or F8.
5. Just press enter, if you get warning, if any error you will see them in next screen
A message will indicate if it was successful or not. And if not why. For example here it failed due to
valuated stock and open purchase orders that exists.
