A. DEFINITION
Myocardial infarction is the blockage of some or more coronary
arteries (also known as cardiac arrest) (Holloway, 2003).
Myocardial infarction is the destruction of heart tissue due to
inadequate blood supply so that blood flow to the coronary is reduced
(Brunner & Sudarth, 2002).
Myocardial infarction is caused by decreased blood flow through one
or more coronary arteries, causing myocardial ischaemia and necrosis
(Doengus, 2005).
Myocardial infarction is a condition where suddenly there is a
restriction or disconnection of blood flow to the heart, causing the heart
muscle (myocardium) to die from lack of oxygen.
Myocardial infarction is an imbalance of supply and myocardial
oxygen demand so myocardial tissue is dying. Infarction causes
irreversible tissue death. Infarction is not static and can progressively .

B. SIGNS AND SYMPTOM

1. Pain great on the left chest spread to the left shoulder, left neck and
upper left arm, most of the duration of 30 minutes to several hours, it is
like stabbed, pressed, pierced.
2. Tachycardia
3. Sweat a lot
4. Sometimes nausea and even vomiting caused due to severe pain and
vasosegal reflex is channeled from the area of myocardial damage to
the gastro intestinal tract
5. Dispnea
6. Abnormal On ECG examination .

C. TRIGGERS
1. Infection of the lungs
2. Fever
3. Excessive fluid load
 4. Recurrent heart infarction
5. Arrhythmias
6. Pulmonary embolism
7. Emotional stress
8. Myocarditis
9. Endocarditis

D. COMPLICATION
1. Dysrhythmias
2. Heart failure
3. Pulmonary shock
4. Thrombophlebitis
5. Pericarditis
6. Mitral valve insufficiency
7. Postinfarction angina
8. Ventricular rupture
