Motivational Strategies

It is vital to use a variety of strategies to motivate students to stay actively engaged in the
learning process and motivate them to do their best possible work.

Some key strategies include:

1. Positive reinforcement: do not focus solely on the misbehavior in the classroom, but
focus on the good behaviors and attitudes in the classroom. Acknowledge and
encourage good behavior and academic success in the classroom. Notify families of
good behaviors and attitudes during student pick up.

2. Encouragement: Encourage students to be intrinsically motivated. lnform students that


it is okay to make mistakes and take risks in the classroom. Provide students with
specific feedback on an assignment or activity rather than just stating "good job".
Encourage is the positive acknowledge response to focus on student efforts of specific
attributes or work completed with a foci on improvement and effort not just a final
product.

3. Clear expectations: Ensure that expectations are developmentally appropriate for all
individual students and are manageable.

4. Excitement: When teaching staff are enthusiastic about learning events it will promote
student excitement and engagement.
