on one case of police brutality

1. The online survey will have six questions asking how students feel on the current
political state of our law enforcement system. This is just a primer to gauge the
environment of the classroom and open up preliminary conversation in order to prepare
the students for such a content-heavy book
2. The journal entries are a way for me to keep up with the students’ feelings and thoughts
on the book and see if they are comprehending what is happening plot-wise. It is also a
way for me to see what students are thinking if they tend not to share in class.
3. The Quickwrite is more for the students to come back to later when writing their essay
on conflict, development, and character motivation.
4. The graphic organizer is also a checkpoint for students that they can keep adding to and
refer back to when writing their essay
5. The class-wide discussion is meant to check on student progress as the book comes to
a close and facilitate a discussion on how people react to police brutality and tragedy
6. The in-class essay is a wrap up to see if students have come to fully understand conflict,
motivation, and character development.
7. The short informational essay is tied to the graphic organizer exercise and meant to
flesh out to flesh out the information that students find in that unit. During this
assessment, students can practice their skills pertaining to smart research and finding
reliable sources.
