¡Hola a todos!

I hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend! Also, a very Happy Veterans Day to
you and yours.

I’m sure this might have been the first words out of your child’s mouth on Friday
afternoon, but we filled up our class pom pom jar nad earned pajama day!! S tudents
are welcome to wear their coziest pjs tomorrow and bring a favorite stuffed
animal (small enough to fit in their backpack). Please don’t forget normal winter
jackets, gloves, hats etc!!

This week, we will be talking about and practicing an ALICE drill, what to do in the
event of an emergency at school. We will first talk about this and practice
individually as a classroom, and then have a school-wide drill later in the week. I will
send an update after our class discussion tomorrow to share any lingering questions
students may have. The main message is that it is the teachers’ job to keep students
safe, and it is the students’ job is to listen and follow directions quickly and quietly.

A peek at our  In Spanish Language Arts, we are focusing on consonants “s”
week  and “p.” Students have begun to practice blending
consonants with vowel “a.” Students will continue to practice
good, independent reading habits throughout the day. Last
week we also officially launched “taller de escritura” (writer’s
workshop). Students have loved getting to share their work
in our “author’s chair” and receive feedback from their
classmates.

In Math, students will continue to work on comparing
numbers and practice our new academic vocabulary (mayor
que, menor que, menos, más). They are really enjoying many
of the game-based activities during math rotations, and
meet in small groups with either Señora Ponce or myself
almost every day!

This week in Science, we are going to continue learning
about weather and specifically “el viento” (wind). I am hoping
if the weather cooperates, we can continue learning in the
school yard, our outdoor classroom!
Action Items   “Amigo/a de la semana” (friend of the week) kicks off this
week! Students will have one week to complete a guided
poster about themselves to share with their classmates on
the following Friday. I will email you to let you know when
the poster is coming home with your child.

I will be submitted a Scholastic Book Club order this Friday,
November 16th! Please submit orders online using class code
MD2RM! With class points I am able to build up our
classroom library!

Friendly  If your child is sick or will be absent, please continue to email

Reminders  myself, Señora Ponce (federica_ponce@wayland.k12.ma.us)
and the school (ch_attendance@wayland.k.12) so that
everyone is in the loop!

Thank you to all of our parent volunteers who have signed up
to help out on Fridays during our “crear” center, and to share
a story or song in Spanish on Wednesday afternoons. We
look forward to having you!

Please remember that next Wednesday, November 21,
students will be dismissed at 12 PM.

In gratitude   Thank you to our first STEAM volunteer who ran our “crear”
(create) center last Friday, Betsy Cullen! So far student
creations have included rocket ships, confetti blasters,
binoculars and more!

Thank you to everyone who came and shared with us during
parent teacher conferences. Every child is special and unique
and we loved sharing about their transition to Spanish
immersion kindergarten. Please, never hesitate to
communicate with us before the next round of conferences
in March.
